OT: What I Did Today

So SMWBO and the kids are gone. I took a personal day because I had better plans than work. Spent this morning in a KCBS Certified BBQ Judging class. The afternoon was Meadow Creek BBQ's annual consignment auction. Pictured here is what I wish I could have bought, and what I actually came home with. Any guesses which is which?

Was a great day, hanging with BBQers, even though it rained towards the end of the auction.

Funny thing is, you just learn KCBS rules. For KCBS scoring you judge based on appearance, taste, and texture. All of which are completely subjective and personal. And that's OK. A judges table has 6 judges and if there is one judge that is way lower or higher than the rest of the table their score is dropped.

That smoker-- do you remember who made it? I can see an id plate but can't make it out. Looks like the same size tank I got last week. You didn't happen to get any pics of the firebox did you?

That's a Meadow Creek TS500. I live about 30 minutes from their fab shop. They fab from 1/4" rolls of steel, they don't start with a tank. The welds are perfect. My next cooker will probably be a PR42 rather than a TS.

I don't know @DMW, but they sure look like they started with propane tanks. 120, 250, and 500 gallon propane tanks have exactly those dimensions. But I wasn't there in person either. I appreciate the link, as I'm trying to gather all the info prior to cutting this thing up.
@cazzy‌ yeah, rf; insulated firebox. Still debating dividing it up like the lang hybrid, as it's use would be likely divided. Still too early to tell though.

Yep, there is no seam aside from where the ends are welded on. If they started with a tank there wouldnt be seams on the end. Not sure there is any advantage to using rolled steel vs a tank though. They do really impressive work.

Cool. From the site they seem to make really nice stuff. I'd still love to see that firebox though!

I'll probably go back tomorrow for their open house. I'll try to get a shot if they have a 500 around. If not, I'll get one of a smaller one.

I don't get it... You came home with a nice certificate and a sweet smoker, yet you're lusting after a cooler and some foodservice containers???

@Jeremiah Here's some pic of the firebox. Directly above the box is a warming rack. This is on a TS250, the 500 wasn't there.imageimageimageimageimageimage
