Gasket Question
What can you guys tell me about the High-Que Gold Standard Gasket?

I can't speak on that gasket. But I can speak on my Rutland gasket. I wouldn't spend that money for something I'll be replacing in a couple of years. Why not spend half of that for a gasket that's gonna last for a bunch of years.LBGE Virginia Beach, Virginia

The adhesive will fail. The only thing that will not fail is a Rutland gasket applied with permatex ultra copper.....IMO.Maumelle, Arkansas

+2, lg and xl both rutland'dThe Dude: This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! *uck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

No issues here with the high que. I used to use the Super 77 adhesive but once I found high que and the ease of application, I have never looked back.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I haven't seen that one before. Warranty is nice on it.

The high temp gaskets are fine (no experience with that one) it's the adhesives that fail. I went with a Rutland and permatex and haven't looked back.Mark Annville, PA

I have the old High-Q Nomex on my MBGE, two years old and working like new. Key is to install so the gasket does not overhang the interior of the egg. Sorry, no experience with this new kevlar version. In an egg, a Rutland should last as long as the egg, hell the one on my wood stove has been there for 10 years, but the food safe issue concerns me, and just because a bunch of folks use it does not make it safe. Given my food safe Nomex gasket has seen at least 300 cooks to date, I don't miss 10 cents a cook. By the look of it it will be more like 5 or 6 cents a cook before it will need replacing.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Haven't tried it but my neighbor loves his HiQue grate.
We both have rutlands with permatex. It has taken all of the abuse I can throw at it for the past 18 months and still going strong. About to replace the one on my wife's Large, so I looked at the link.
For $30+ I'll be going with a Rutland to do hers.

I use Rutland too. I know for a fact that I've ingested at least one Rutland gasket's worth of fiberglass just from insulating several houses! I'm betting that so much of the food we eat today has so much preservative and additional toxic coloring in it that if a few strands of fiberglass make it into my burger a few times a year, I'll still make it just as long. The other vices that go along with egging will likely catch up with me before any issues from a Rutland gasket. Which reminds me, I really need to kick the chewing habit.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!
