Pizza hole

This is something I did on an egg table last spring, and I thought some of you might be interested in it. Basically it is just a slot cut in the front of the table with support runners under it to store your (cool) pizza stone when not in use, and make it less vulnerable to being tripped over and broken

I've thought about doing something similR for my half moon stone.

  • I like it.  I'm not the best woodworker, but I may try something similar on my table.  Thanks for sharing.

Great idea. No issue with smoldering with hit stone?

My pizza hole is right below my nose but this is a great idea too. Will definitely steal it when I build a table.

For all you budding wood workers, I can't recommend enough investing in a Kreg pocket hole jig.  All you need is this LINK, and some screws.   Perfect for making egg tables and projects like this.

its funny you say that, I just picked one up a month or two ago, but havent had any time to play around with it yet, I want to be able to get away from having any holes on the top of the table, but right now how they are built the screws that go through the top are pre drilled out bigger then the threads so only the flat head of the screw is holding the top down, and it really helps cut down on the cedar cracking on the ends, Im just worried that the kreg jig pocket screws directly into the surface will make it prone to cracking on the ends.

THESE are the screws we us to put everything together from the 2" cabinet screws to hold the top down to the monster 5" RSS screws to hold all the frame together. I think the 5" screws are about a dollar a piece, but they literally grab so hard in to the 4x4 leg post that you could drive the head all the way the 2x4 frame if you didnt let off on the drill haha.

I have one and I agree, it makes joinery so much easier for this sort of project.  Worth getting for sure.

  • I make alot outside furniture and tables/cabinets out of cedar and never had a proble with splitting unless I get lazy and don't use self-drilling screws. In the process of making my own grill table now, cedar exterior, treated for interior and the whole thing is put together with pocket screws and titebond III. My table will not hold my egg, just all my Eggcessories (I have alot). Having trouble finding a piece of EGG GREEN granite or slate, but patience is a virtue.image
