Cellared properly, I give it 10 out of 10 stars, for a Bordeaux. And since it is a Bordeaux Red Blend of about 20 years old, you have hit the bulls eye. It is right about its peak for BDX reds, typically 18 - 25 years.
St Emilion is no stranger to some of the worlds greatest vintages, and a Grand Cru has much more stringent requirements to assure its quality. It is a "right bank" wine from a small hamlet that provides some of the oldest vines providing grapes of cab sauv, cab franc, merlot and malbec.
This winemaker is known to produce "sleeping beauties" because people buy them to build verticals of sequential vintages, and hold them for their peak. Letting them refine even more so in the cellar.
I can't ever seem to do that. I buy it. I drink it. I have had a couple I have done that way.
But very seldom have I done so.
My favorites are French Red Blends, and it is not even close. It is my opinion, the French, when it comes to making wine, have forgotten more than we will ever know.
Awesome bottle of wine my friend. That will make any meal or event, a very special occasion.
I hope you enjoyed it.
The story behind this bottle is that I have a good friend who is French. His father, now deceased, worked in the wine industry in France for a good long time. My friend now owns a large collection of nice French wine and doesn’t have many friends who enjoy it the way we do. Consequently, he often treats us to exemplary bottles whenever we get together. We feel very privileged that he shares it with us. -

Some CR Peach with this Padron. Yes, it’s good, but I may lose my bourbon snob certificate.

I'm not sure why, but over the years I've been drinking less beer and wine, actually drinking less in general, too, as a matter of fact, but when I do have a drink it's usually a cocktail. It became sort of a hobby, and I've made hundreds of different ones, and of course not all of them were very good.
I don't know how many of you read the Winnie the Pooh books when you were kids, but I came across a cocktail recipe called Eeyore's Requiem many years ago, and the combination of the name, and the fact that this drink is LOADED with bitter, bitter, bitter stuff just sort of cracked me up. Campari, Cynar, Fernet Branca, and orange bitters are all really, really bitter!
It turned out to be delicious! I was amazed. Will be making it again!Eeyore's Requiem
Source: Toby Maloney of Chicago's Violet HourINGREDIENTS
1 1/2 ounces Campari
1/2 ounce Tanqueray gin
1/4 ounce Cynar
1/4 ounce Fernet Branca
1 ounce Dolin Blanc (not the usual dry) Vermouth
15 drops orange bitters (Fee's, Regan's, or a mix)
3 orange twists
DIRECTIONS
Fill a mixing glass with ice, add Campari, Tanqueray, Cynar, Fernet, vermouth, and bitters. Stir until well chilled and strain into serving glass. Twist orange peel over drink to to express oils and discard.
