A tile is not enough. Here's a good read: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/eggbase/eggbase.htmXL, Large, Small, Mini Eggs, Shirley Fabrication 24x36 Patio, Humphrey's Weekender, Karubecue C-60, MAK 1-Star General, Hasty Bake Gourmet, Santa Maria Grill, Webers: 14" WSM, 22.5" OTG, 22.5" Kettle Premium, WGA Charcoal, Summit S-620 NG

Get yourself a table nest. Mine was about $25. But it will raise it another 2" or so.

Fire proof barrier, like a paver and an air gap (1/4"-1/2" air gap). Alternative is a table nest which provides 2" of air gap - I'd still put that over a tile or stone surface. My medium sits on a tiled shelf with a table nest.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Thanks for all the replies. It seems mine is not the only one that sits up like this. Here it is. It's cypress and the top is some type of South American hardwoods used in the manufacturing of truck bodies (floors). It was perfect for this I thought. The sink will be connected to a garden hose and drain on to the ground. Now I just need to get it out of the shop and on to the deck and fire it up!

Beautiful table! I know you want to lower the egg, but you actually should raise it. As others have said, I think you need a paver and an air gap. Would hate to see this happen...
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

2" concrete paver alone is fine, but ceramic tile is not made to withstand the heat and will eventually crack. You could go with the BGE table nest also which is about the same height as the paver, but quite a bit more pricey than the pavers.
