I think egg white has more albumin than collagen. Careful with severe burns though interesting - you could end up infected by just dipping your body parts in egg whites. Interesting remedy. Hope nobody needs to ever use it.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

  • Sorry for this to be my first post on here, but as a physician I don't think this is the best advice. This is not taught in any first aid course and should be avoided due to the possible bacteria in eggs. There isn't any evidence to suggest that the collagen/protein in eggs helps the burns anyway. The best treatment would be cool (not cold) water followed by a thick layer of antibiotic ointment. Seek medical attention if the burns are anything more than superficial.

Tnewb33 Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum. What part of the world are you in?

  • I'm in San Antonio. Just bought an egg to go in our new outdoor kitchen but we are a little behind on the construction and I haven't even picked it up yet. I've got about a dozen recipes I'm ready to try as soon as everything is done. This site has been a lot of help and I haven't even started.

I see so many things on this site that I want to cook, I have to take breaks from the site occasionally to catch up on cooking.

I with the MD's here. The important part is reversing the burning process and then protecting the affected area from moisture loss/infection(this is what kills burn victims that make it through the initial injury).

However, once burned, eat plenty of eggs for healing. Albumin is the most efficient protein we can consume, which is necessary for healing.

@SmokeyPitt - good link, had seen before but could not find it. @RRP as always, thanks - I'm sure we all understand you had only the best of intentions.

@Eggcelsior - good advice, nothing like pickled eggs and beer to take the edge off a mild burn....
Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

@RRP - I don't think anyone doubts that you had good intentions. My response was not meant to be critical. Just starting the dialogue... until the pickled eggs came along :)

Agreed... and use some to pour over wound when you get there. Take my advice with a grain of salt because I'm "there".
