OT - calling all electricians
Thanks to @busmania and the plumbing thread I'm reaching out for a little lighting advice. I need to replace bulbs in exterior fixtures for my front walkway and the recommended bulb is an automotive 3155K. No one in the auto world here can find one and the local electrical supplier can source only 3155 bulbs (without a K). Can anyone tell me what the K stands for? And would 3155 be the same as the original 3155K? Getting darker earlier and I need light!

I think the K is for Kelvin degrees, which is an indication of the color of the light emitted.Ask any photographer.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

K stands for Krypton. Canadian Tire? Walmart Automotive? Found this

not an electrician - but I believe it is Krypton gas filled... longer life. 3155 still works - but not Krypton filled.

@VillageIdiot @BigWader Thanks for the info. Starting to make sense. @LittleSteven Thanks buddy but I went into the Crappy Tire and the automotive guy looked at me like I was from another planet. Which perhaps I am. I'll try Wally's tonight.

My $0.02 - change the fixtures. More $$, but less headache. The previous owners of our house had some lighting installed by an interior decorator type outfit. Pinheads picked cockamie fixtures for over the kitchen breakfast bar area. The light bulb itself has a flange near the base which holds the glass shade up. The fixture itself is nothing special to look at. Replacement bulbs of this type were $20-$30 each from the manufacturer (Seagull Lighting or somehthing). Spent weeks looking on the interwebs and around town in specialty lighting suppliers for the special bulb. Finally found them for $5 apiece from a small store in MA that also sold stuff on online. Hate those lights.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Sorry gab, it is an automotive bulb. I misread the voltage. Called a supplier and he is sourcing them now. How many do you want?

Amazon also has a 10 pack for $19. http://www.amazon.com/Bulbrite-3155K-Volt-18-5-Wedge/dp/B002JKUKHWSouthern Indiana

Don't drop one near Superman - the Krypton gas inside will escape and render him harmless, hence the K suffix as noted by LS. Any supply house Nedco/Gescan has these used in outdoor low voltage lighting. As noted above Amazon has a 10 pack.I have 3 in the garage, but not much help to you there...Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

I didn't call Nedco. I'll phone them in the morning.

Thanks everyone for the advice and to @LittleSteven for checking his sources. I did find the bulbs at PartSource this morning. That is what is amazing about this forum. Not only a community of support in all things Egg related but a community willing to help in whatever way we can.
