Trader Joes Santa Maria Tri Tip

Ok I'm not affiliated with Trader Joes but ever since the moved into my area I can't get enough. No it's not new to me I had them when I lived in CA years ago and loved them. Well a few months ago I had both a Tri tip at Costco and reversed seared it, came out awesome and I was determined to do it again someday. Well Costco is 20 miles from my house and I don't have a membership anymore.

TJ,s came to my neighborhood about a month ago and I was combing the place yesterday and came across the Santa Maria Tri Tip. I was a little leery about the marinade and all the sodium and crap in it my wife will complain about, but hey if a few minutes of ####### I think I will survive.

She didn't even notice the package and said nothing score one for me. I did a reverse sear and pulled it at about 130 (I like rare to med rare).

Was pretty awesome but next time I'm going with no marinade and doing DP Cow Lick I think.

I envy you both for eating tri-tip tonight and for having a trader joes. Oklahoma's stupid liquor laws keep the big grocery chains out of the state and most butchers don't use the tri-tip cut. I have found a place but it is quite expensive so I only get one every now and then. 

I like Dizzy Pig Fajitaish on tri-tip.

Traders joes is alway good. I get a flat iron steak from them that is marinated in chipotle sauce. DELICIOUS. About 3-4 minutes over side

Looks good! Try the carne asada at Traders Joes if they carry it where you are.

@Grambler Ya next week when I get back I'm going to try the carne asada and then flat iron steak @tacodawg recommended. @griffin You always can come down and shop at the one down here and then stop by for a few drinks.

Costco does have a good quality tri tip, but I'm thinking the Trader Joes version.

Damn that's a tough one, but I'm sticking with TJ'a

@TUTTLE871 was the tri-tip from TJ's select, choice, or prime? I can easily get select grade from my local HEB but would prefer choice.

@Tuttle871 Picked up a Tri-Tip from Trader Joe's this morning. Thanks for providing me with a good source for tri-tips. I will be using red oak and love serving it with salsa and pinquito beans like they do in California. Plus maybe a nice Zin.
