Pork Chops w/Whiskey BBQ Sauce

I saw a buddy of mine post this on another bbq forum last week and knew that I had to try it. The recipe came from Weber's Charcoal Grilling. I don't have that cookbook, so I googled the recipe and found a few. I did do mine a bit different from their instructions. I cooked mine at about 475 direct for about 8 minutes per side, turning 90 deg halfway through and pulled them when they hit 140 (not quite exactly 16 minutes). I did not do any portion of this cook indirect as the recipe called for. For smoke, I used a mixture of pecan chunks and apple wood chips.

I'm not really sold on this recipe. Maybe if you like steak sauce, you'd like this more than I did. I'm not a fan of steak sauce, so I actually had to go buy some. By itself, I didn't care for the sauce at all. When paired up with the chops, the flavor of the sauce and the ingredients of the rub worked ok together (better than it was by itself). Not sure I would make it again, think I'll save the bourbon for the cook (me). Mrs. G took one taste of the sauce and refused to put any on her plate. Not everything is for everybody, I guess.

  • Nice looking photos Griff, sure looks tasty. My wife does prefers her chops with sauce only, and she prefers the slightly smokey fruit sauces rather than the molasses based ones. I've tried it a couple of times, but I still come back to just a dry rub on mine. To each his own.
Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
  • I have had a honey bourbon glaze put on the chops and it was great. It couldn't hurt to try that out.
