Table is Done finally... Pics inside
well, i take that back. the table is 96%ish complete.
need to support the table top as it is just laying loose on top right now and some other minor adjustments. i had to get it out of the garage and on the deck for this weekend's bday party for my twins.
there is also a mistake made.. dont know how it happened... dont want to talk about it!
now that the table is done i am happy with it i guess. i never could decide on what to do on the right side of it. i built a door and didnt like it and didnt want to do shelves.. i think what i am going to do is wait to see if i get another egg and it will fit perfectly or look for some stained glass that i could use as the center of the door and attach it that way. in the meantime i am going to slide a bin in there. i used the captain flagship marine varnish for anyone that is curious. 2 coats everywhere and 4 on top.
i dont think i hit the true vision that i started with but will add some accessories as we go. the main goal on the front was to hide the fastners in the 4x4's etc and i think i accomplished that.. anywho

Looks Great!

Can you only order marine varnish online? I live in Roswell, GA and Lowes or Home Depot don't carry it.
-
Thanks for the comments. As far as the varnish goes, I picked it up locally at west marine boat store. I'd start the search at a boat store and worst case order it online.
-
I love it... I can only hope mine looks that nice when finished!!!XL BGE - Med BGE - Mini BGE - Traeger Pellet GrillsHillsboro OR

I don't see any mistakes!! Looks beautiful and I love the finish! Nicely done!! =D>Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....
-
thanks.... i threw away the plans and i cant go back now to look but... i missed the height of the shelf by an inch or so.. the lid opens but not fully.. i am going to have to stack another blcok under the egg so it will fully open.. i think i might wrap the stone then in cedar to hide it!

Oh well...I thought it was riding low. It's fixable so no worries. Another paver or your wrapped cedar shelf and you're golden pony boy.

worse than i thought it took 2 pavers.. thats allright though- i will wrap it in cedar i guess!

Great Job, looks awesome!
-
I think fire brick or just a different style of paver might be thicker and get you the extra height you need. Just a suggestion. Looks great.
-
thanks.. i thought about that as well... the pavers are definitely thicker... gonna look at some options for long term
-
Love the finish, beautiful table
-
I think you did a great job and the hiding of the pavers is a good idea but, will it hamper the cleaning of the ash? If so, pavers look great!
OKC area XL - Medium Eggs -
Thanks! to tell you the truth i have yet to use the door to clear out the ash...i usually go in from up top and i actually use a solo cup and a grocery bag to clear out all the ash and once every so often shop vac it!

Very nice looking table.
Since the hinges are at the back, you could saw out a rectangular area so the hinges can open completely. That's what I did on my terrazzo top (fortunately already at first attempt).
-
yea i thought about doing that as well Salsa... with there being 3 pavers there- the vent is up pretty high now was well... after this weekend's party i will decide

Sweet table. IMO it's much too pretty to sit outside. Nice work!
