Birthday gift of a Large BGE was a success!

Shew!  Now I can freely post in here without thinking about my husband seeing the post!

His birthday was last Thursday and some of you might recall me posting a while back that I had secured the egg and eggccessories(sp?)!  I barely made it to his birthday with the secret!

At lunchtime I left work enroute to pick up his new egg.  We live in a dual state city and I had to pick up and assemble the egg or get charged a large state tax.  No big deal.  I picked up some adult beverages, the egg, and headed home!

Once home I assembled the nest and was beginning on the egg when I get a text from my husband stating that he was leaving work, it was his birthday and he was ready to get out of there!  I almost panicked, as I had wanted the egg completely assembled, large bow atop it, and eggccessories displayed around it.  But the egg was still in the box. . . so nest in place, eggccessories displayed, bow atop egg box still in truck, and adult beverage complete with bge koozi(sp?) - I was ready!

I think he was overwhelmed!  He didn't even notice the koozi's!!  He saw the nest and eggccessories and then the truck and was like "WTF!"  Then we immediately started putting the egg together.  I'm glad he came home because, as strong as I think I am, I wouldn't have been able to lift those pieces alone!

We went to dinner with family as planned.  Then he spend the next 2 days reading up and thinking about his first cook.  On Sunday the egg got its first flame!  He cooked steaks, pork loin, chicken, and I made some ABT's!  These were all small quantities, he was just trying out the temps and direct vs indirect.

But now he is super excited and we are ready to get cooking!

We also have tasting tickets to the Georgia Mountain Eggfest next weekend - we are excited about that too!

I'll try to attach a couple of pictures - Go Steelers!

Happy egging!

That is a great story. You know that you'll be be getting rid of that gas grill soon (or using it for storing eggcessories) which is good cuz then you can get rid of that ugly cover on it. ;)

Ok, if you weren't already married I would have proposed. :-c

wait, is he on the forum? LOL
You should get him on here, but don't let him see the above.  ;)

Nice job, but honestly I did really enjoy putting mine together. It's a great toy with a lot of future in it.

Thanks!  I don't know if he's created an account just yet, but I think he's been lurking somewhere!

And yeah, he did really enjoy putting it together.  I think it gave him a realization of how "serious" it was!
  • Great job. My wife gave me. One for fathers day 7-8 years ago and it's still the best present I've ever gotten from anyone for anything. She wasn't able to pull off the surprise like you but just because she wanted to make sure it's what I really wanted. You have just fired a shot across the bow on what awesome presets are supposed to look like! Score one for the home team.
