My mini table, hand crafted
Clay Q
Posts: 4,486
It's all about having fun with the mini.
Starts out as a knock-down for transportation.
Assembly is a pleasure, I just tap in the wood 'keys'. This joinery is keeping with the Arts & Crafts Style of furniture.
All done, mini ready to be fired up.
The back bar, fully functional...
This evenings entertainment! Let's grill some steaks.

That table is pretty nice looking! Where did you pick up such a treat?
I may have to start a little "Mini table savings Jar" to get me one too! -
I designed and built this table. Gun stock black walnut for the lower leg elements, quarter sawn white oak for the table top. Only the best for the mini. :woohoo:
Thanks. -
Been a long, long, long time since I have seen craftsman ship like that. Great job! Roughly, how long did it take you to build it?
-
That is a work of art and golffer is right, it is a great job.
Oh, I also admire the drinking bar with beverage! A well thought out table.
Thanks for sharing with us! -
Got a good close look at the Florida fest and as nice as the pictures are it still doesn't do it justice. Top notch Clay

Around 40 hours. This being a concept design and test model I'm not set up for efficiency. I'm working on a table design for the small egg right now... I might upscale the table top with book matched planks of white oak for appearance.
Thanks for the kind words.
Beauty is in the Details:
Wedged through tenons.
Pocket wheels.

Thanks Pat!
Workin on a table design for the next Florida Fest grand prize. I'll keep you informed as things progress. -
Wow, that really looks nice!!! I can't wait to see what you build for a small. I may try to copy some of your ideas. thanks for posting the pics!!

All I can say is "WOW! That looks amazing!"
-
Beautiful Clay, just beautiful! :cheer:
-
Clay, that is beautiful work!!!
And for those not familiar with the wedged connections in the base, they are extremely strong! Imagine the lateral force generated when hand planing on this workbench (pic "borrowed" from Google Images). I have a bench with these wedges and believe me, there is NO movement. At all. Yet the joints come apart with the tap of a mallet.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Your right, the wedges make the joinery very strong and tight.
Nice workbench in the photo, look at the size of those shavings he's making! I'll guess he's working with red cedar.
Thanks. -
haha - I wasn't even looking at the shavings. Just searched for a workbench pic with wedges. Now that you mention it though... I think he made those shavings with a drawknife!!!!
His bench is sturdy. Yours is too, but it also looks great!!!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

WOW - what an impressive work of art!! Truly awesome!! :woohoo:
So is woodworking a hobby for you, or a career?
VERY IMPRESSIVE!! :cheer:Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup... Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee -
Thank you!
Designing and building tables is a hobby. I have a small studio workshop at home that is off the back patio. It's a man cave with tools, work benches and sawdust on the floor. -
Clay: Outstanding!!! You are a true craftsman. Got my Large Egg. Now it's time to get the BBQ team going. Come join the fun.
-
Congrats on getting your large egg! :woohoo:
Thanks Coach. I'm in with the BBQ Team. -
Beautiful! I wish I had some of your talent and skill.

It really looks like a shrine out of an Indiana Jones movie. That is one seriously beautiful table / altar. When you are not cooking on the BGE, you can use it to appease the rain god.
Seriously, that is a really nice job. I am sure you will enjoy it for a long time. -
Very nice work Clay.
I saw your work in FLA and was amazed. Now I'm speechless.

NIce, and I like your choice in beer!
-
Thanks. I enjoy the creativity and challenge- taking a pile of rough lumber and making the transformation.
-
There are so many things I like about this table. Absolutely wonderful design. I'm sure this would be very popular if it were to be available to buy.
Way to go!! -
There will be a very lucky person who holds the grand prize raffle ticket at the Florida Sunshine State Eggfest this spring. The prize is a table like this with a small egg in it!!! :woohoo:
-
Wow, super nice!
-
Wow!
-
Wow! Awesome design man!
-
Thanks. Workin on a new table for the small egg this weekend. The plan is to design and build book matched quarter sawn white oak planks for the top. Might be impossible to do, that's why I'm going to attempt it. The style will be Samurai Tansu influenced. I can hardly wait to makes some sawdust!
-
That..., That is beautiful. Well done!!
-
I wish I could see more than a single photo on 'PhotoBucket'.
You could always use Deviantart or just post 'em.
