  • Re: New to Big Green Egg Forum

Why is the Thermapen so valuable?  I assume the obvious that you can take the temp of your roast instantly?
  • Re: Rookie Lessons Learned

Another rookie mistake commonly made...BURP your egg for christ's sake!  I've singed arm hairs on a few occasions because I decided to just open the egg....bad idea.
  • Re: Getting Temp Down

There is no cooling down an egg quickly.
  • Before and after rib pics

Got a 3 pack of ribs from Sams Club.  Took the one rack and pulled the silverskin off, rubbed some yellow mustard on and gave it a good shower of my favorite rub.  This rub has brown and white sugar, chili powder [hot], cumin and a few other ingredients.

I put the rack on the egg at about 250 F.  Let it cook for a little over 1.5 hours then coated it with some honey.  Put the rack in a foil tent for about 1.5 hours.  Opened the tent and basted with Stubbs hot BBQ sauce, did this again about a half hour later.

I've attached the before and after pics.

  • Re: So pumped !! Off to shop for my first Egg.

You won't be sorry.  I've had mine for 2 months and I've used it to make everything but icecream.

    My opinion:

    Get the platesetter!

Pass on the ash tool, use a shopvac if you have one to get the ashes.

Don't buy Green egg coal, my understanding is that it's Royal Oak coal in a different bag and a higher price.

If you buy online you won't get the warranty, stick with a local dealer.
