when we were camping last week "HE" forgot to pack the lump :S so stopped at Wally world and got 5 bags of RO American. ("HE" only had to pack the three eggs and lump)
While we were in there I was trying to get on the Whiz's site to see about it and Neil pointed out it was our only option so what diff did it make how it rated. I really just wanted to make sure we had enough if it was fast burning LOL It burned great. sparky to light but no worse than the wicked good we buy by the pallet. and cooked 10 days, three eggs, most of the meals for at least 6 adults per meal and sometimes up to 20 and brought two full unopened bags home. over all very happy with it. still like Wicked Good better but would buy this no problem if I had to. Defiantly agree with the #4 rating it was given maybe even to a 4.5

That is what I use most. Really like it.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

That is what I use but all the local Walmarts are out. None could tell me if they would get more before winter. There is a new Walmart opening today @ 8 will check with them to see if they have any.
-
That's what I use as well. As long as it is the U.S. version your good to go. Tim

I too got some Royal Oak at our local WM anf like it very much. When I returned to get more a week ago, I was told the "season" was over and they would not have any more !!!

Hi Edna, we are just screwed up here in Maine for the "season" it is what 2 weeks in the retailers minds????
-
I like RO. It's not as long burning, and produces a bit more ash than WG, but for the price, it's not bad. It's purported that BGE charcoal is RO un disguise.

The "season" here in the bay area is all year. :PDave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

fyi. I know the owner of the company and found out that sam's brand and Kroger brand is the exact same thing just different packaging.
-
If you know the owner of Royal Oak lump charcoal can you get a list of the private label brand names and what country they are made in? If it is possible and easy enough. Tim

I told him I couldn't find the RO at walmart and he told me those were the same. My friend didn't know I saw him and called his office and was put in touch with someone in customer service and they told him the same thing with other details of where to get it. He just happened to play golf the day I was just about out of charcoal.
-
I know publix green wise is another private label.

i love wicked good as well, but you have to give it 45 mintues to an hour to get it hot enough to cook burgers, hot dogs, etc... i use royal oak for all my quick cooks and even some less long slow and lows.
-
I use it all the time. It's the company that makes BGE charcoal.I think they save the best for BGE.
But the last few bags of RO I opened had many pieces that weren't completely charred. I pick those out. They burn just like firewood.and it takes forever to get them to stop smoking that awful smell. -
cherokeer, Thanks. I did know all that you have mentioned. I also called customer service and they told me some labels that is theirs. I took notes but, this is as far as I have understood. I like RO a lot it is easy to get and affordable. I have never had any trouble cooking with it and have found on occasion small rocks and concrete but not to an extreme. Tim

Maybe "SHE" should stop busting "HE's nads.
-
What did it end up costing you per 20# bag? I'm about out myself.
-
I just paid 7& change for all 8 bags Wally had left here in NC
-
I used it to cater my last two events and have been very happy with the results. They just started carrying it at the Walmart by me so I stocked up.
