So, you may remember I bought a gently used small egg off Craigslist for my dad's fathers day gift.
It needed some "love..."
Well, after several weeks of picking up backordered parts and cleaning up this egg, we proudly gave it to my dad today.
I just hope my dad likes it as much as I was proud to give it to him.
Hey Sparky - thanks for nice new handle!!!

Great job, looks perfect. Would you do it again or just buy a newer one? How hard was the lower vent to replace?

Would I do it again? It depends on how much needs to be fixed.
We got this egg for $175. I guess I didn't expect the replacement parts would be as expensive as they were.
All told, we spent about $500 for the egg, replacement parts and several (n"egg"essary) eggcessories (nest, grill gripper, firestarters, place setter, and heavy duty cover), which for new we probably would have spent close to $700. But in hindsight it took us more than 2 months to get all the replacement items in. SO, his Father's Day present was delivered 6 weeks late. :pinch:
Replacing the firedoor was pretty easy...we had to pry off the old door, but the SS door fit perfectly . Just need a bead of clear caulk around it for the finishing touch. -
Well I'm sure he won't mind it being a little late, and will certainly appreciate all the elbow grease put into it.

Beautiful. A couple of years ago I was given an older Large BGE as thanks for doing a demo cook. Old style rusted shut lower vent, daisy wheel, bands and hinge but truly a thing of beauty after a cleaning burn, new gasket and new lower vent. Took a little bit of work and money but the result was worth it.
