I started shopping for a barbecue. I had been looking at a Vermont Castings with a rear rotisserie burner and kit- Really like the idea of watching them chickens turn, dripping off to a crispy barbecue chicken while having a beer......
Then I heard about the Big Green Egg. I like the idea of natural charcoal that lasts and natural smoked chicken..... but you don't get to watch it cook dammm! I just looked around this site
a little and well, I thought I would post my dilemma.- Appreciate
any input on which way to go

Welcome,
If you really need to watch the chicken cook the egg is not for you, BUT, if you want the best tasting chicken (IMHO) the egg is great. Maybe if you posted you would like to taste food from an egg some nice egger might invite you over.[p]Good luck,
New Bob

0 • Off Topic Disagree Agree LikeYou seem to be a visual type of guy. Consider this, set the temp on your BGE. Put the chicken in the egg(Spatchcocked), have the wood chunks in the fire box. Set down in your favorite chair with your favorite beverage. Watch the smoke slowly wiff out of the chimney while enjoying your company and wait on the best darn chicken you have ever eaten. This is a commom occurence when cooking with the egg.[p]Best of luck on your decision, from an Egghead.[p]Louisiana Redneck[p]

If I didn't know better, I'd say you were using tungsten film! But if you balance for the flame, the sunlight goes blue like that. very cool.

Got the rotissere. Got the 800 sq. inches of grill space and 5 gas burners. Got the easy rider rifle rack. Says all he has to do is put the wheels on and he'll be cookin![p]He was too excited that I did not have the heart to tell him he cudda done better. BTW, he has not had egged food yet, and I am sure he'll be happy with his purchase until he knows better.[p]The little visual fest down below in this thread has me hungry. I gots some pixtures too. Here is one of my first cooks of some top sirloins a few years back.[p]What kind of pixtures are they showin over at the Vermont Castings forum?[p]Best of luck on your decision!!!

0 • Off Topic Disagree Agree LikeThat is one of my favorite food pictures ever. Including those by food photographers using two highly paid fod stylists.[p]I am purty sure Dr. Woo used a digital for this shot. By the looks of the streaks from the sparks, the exposure was over a second long, and the blue of the cool evening light in the background was amplified, while the warm tones of the blaze came through in a big way to create a smegtacular spectrum of color. A thing of beauty when you let the existing light work ferya![p]Catch you next weekend.
