I read a lot of posts in which people are asking why they should spend $700-900 for a BGE. When I see and hear about what committed eggers do for BBQ, I understand. I see people egging in rain, snow, and ice; people travelling with their eggs; good cooks getting better; and really good cooks pushing their limits on the BGE.
If you are committed to something, you want to have the best tools you can buy. The level of commitment here on the forum is incredible. I am constantly amazed by what some home cooks are doing.
In order to be the best, you need to have the best equipment. I think that is what a lot of eggers are doing here and why we are willing to spend the big bucks.
So, next time someone asks me why I would spend $700-800 for a charcoal grill, I will tell them that I am committed to making the best food I can for my family and my guests, and the BGE is one of the tools I need to do just that.
Now, if I can just remember all of this brilliance in the heat of battle...

Dave,
Well said! You will always get those that will buy a Black and Decker and say it is good as a Kitchenaid though.

Very well said sir

that sums it up in a nut shell. And when you factor in all that you have gained from the egg... friends all over the world, many you may never meet but they are there if you need them for help. and when you get to meet them it just gets better

You can have my Black & Decker when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Actually I'm just a cheap SOB and only wanted to buy 1 grill for life ,,,,,,,,,, now I'm still trying to convince my wife why I had to add 2 more

If that's the way it has to be man. How does that B&D meat grinder attachment work?

Very well put.
I too have been please with the end products from my BGE. My wife, a.k.a. Mrs.Claus, was reluctant to write the check for the BGE and eggcessories. I find her looking at the Egghead forum routinely and checking recipes. She has enjoyed everything I have cooked and has said that there is a noticeable difference since the arrival of the BGE.
The information found in the forum and the willingness of the members to share and teach is unbelievable.
The BGE is an impressive tool. -
Hear! Hear! Very well stated.

I have had an egg for about a year or so and I had been trying to sell my dad on the advantages, quality etc. He had been a weber man for as long as I can remember. He came down and stayed with my wife and I for a few weeks and needless to say there was plenty of egging going on. Long story short, he now owns a large and is preparing to buy a mini. He couldn't be happier and is kicking himself for not "drinking the kool aid" sooner.

Nicely said!!!
And, you can also point out that a goodly amount MORE can be spent on a gasser that will NOT do what can be done on an Egg!! Nor will it last as long with out problems and a lot of maintenance. -
I spent more on my Weber gas grill than my BGE. Since I got my BGE I haven't used my Weber at all.
