I have read for 2 years now on this forum how good Hangar steaks are. Well this weekend we were at RD and they had Hangars. I came home and trimmed the 4 steaks. I cooked one tonight per Max, Fidel's and Faiths instructions.
First Mint Tulip started the mini and put some asparagus on the grill. Then we enjoyed a few Pomegranite Martinis. (thanks Richard) When the asparagus was done I cooked the Hangar steak raised direct at 450. I had put salt, pepper, garlic salt & onion salt on the steak. I cooked for 3 -4 minutes per side. It was delicious. The flavor and tenderness of the steak was terrific...this is a great discovery...thanks Max, Rod, Faith, et al....

Kim,
OMG don't do that. Although they would be awesome burgers! Nobody around here had ever heard of them and my first boxes cost $1.99 a pound. That is where they used to go except for the butchers.

Three of my favorites Kim. I love caprese salad and asparagus...looks like you nailed the hangers.
I'm going to Depot Wednesday afternoon to pick up a few. I want to try the onglet method Max posted earlier today. -
FSUScotsman,
It's the esophageal muscle. One per animal. The bottom end isn't attached to anything hence the name hanger. Have you egged haggis yet?

I don't care what they're called.....all I know is I bet it goes down good with a nice cold Steam Whistle. You Canadians sure do hoard all the good beers.
You have me interested in some of the Dirt seasoning too. I may have to spring for a jar to try it. -
