I used to buy lump that had nothing but huge hunks like that and it took forever to get a high temp going@pizza,burgers,steak etc.Wound up having to break them up to do a normal cook.Save those for a long and slow cook as in pork butt 15/20 hrs.The dealer that I bought this from just bought a Primo and told me that the 40 pound bags of this stuff is design for a big rig cooker and not meant for a ceramic cooker.He told me that you need the mix of large and medium chunks to get the job done.

I cook with a lot of mesquite lump, and big pieces are normal. I actually save them and look forward to using them in my bigger pits.

A small smack will break them down to a useable Egg size.
