After contemplating beef ribs, my dad and I decided to go with chili - I know, quite a U-turn. However, neither of us had ever cooked chili on the Egg before . . .
DANG! :woohoo: We have been missin' out!
This was my dad's basic black bean chili recipe, with ground buffalo and chopped ribeye. Cooked on the Egg at 350 for about 3 hours, 2 hickory chunks in the coals.
Served alongside some fresh no-knead bread and my dad's famous slaw (not pictured), this was some of the best chili we've ever done. Just a hint of hickory flavor and the combo of buffalo+ribeye was delicious!
Cheers!!

P.S. - I owe the forum some recipes - as soon as I can get my dad to actually write down what he does (he never writes down recipes or measures anything - it drives me CRAZY!), I'll post them.

I know what you mean....I found BGE because I wanted to make brickoven pizza.....Do you think I have tried pizza yet? Your chili looks good.

After the first time I did my chili on the Egg I've never looked back. A little hickory smoke and life couldn't get any better. I think I've only done one batch in the last five years on the stove.

We had to cook on the Egg last year when the ice storm hit us and we lost power for 14 days.. had chili (we continue to cook our meat out there before we add to chili now), meat galore that was thawing out, just about everything you can think of. The top of the wood stove inside makes a great stovetop also!
Hope not to go through that again for a while... -
i see that rice hiding under there! looks great!
try some spaghetti instead sometime. -
Love our chili on the egg and it has to be over rice. but even better is mashed potatoes! and a little cheddar, sour cream and chopped green onions on it too! yummy! Julie

I also hope you don't have to go through that again any time soon, but it's kind of nice to have your Egg on standby just in case!

I agree completely - my dad was a little dubious about what "effect" the Egg would have, but that first bite was convincing enough!
