The nanny state has made it illegal to use your Egg. An air-quality burn ban is in effect for King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties as smoke from British Columbia wildfires blankets the region.

• No charcoal barbecues
• No fire pits, chimineas, fire bowls or similar free-standing devices
• No campfires or bonfires
• No fireplaces, uncertified wood stoves, or uncertified inserts*

"The purpose of the burn ban is to reduce any additional harm to sensitive populations from excess air pollution and is in addition to existing fire safety burn bans. The Clean Air Agency will continue to closely monitor the situation for purposes of air quality burn bans."

    +1

It's just until air quality doesn't pose a health risk to the majority. Does it suck? Sure. Is it a permanent ban? No. We had the same when the wildfires took over Florida and Georgia earlier this year. Not a huge issue or surprise imho.

The Seattle area is having a rough go of it between both the smoke and the heat wave which is likely to last another week or so.

I'd be fine using my gas grill, if I even wanted to go cook outside (which I probably wouldn't).

And stop signs, and anti-littering laws, and laws against urinating in public, etc., etc., etc.

I am in Central Valley Ca, every day the cars are blanketed with ash from fires that are hundreds of miles away--it's bad here, but still smoking, I'll take my chances on the BBQ police

You can tell by my signature where I am.  It's smoky as can be, and just plain to hot to go outside and cook!
Supposed to clear up a bit and "cool down" to the mid-nineties for the weekend.  Bring it on!

Was just in Portland last week. It was hotter than hell in the late afternoon. Still pretty nice for most of the day (for me anyway). #brewfest

    Good guess.

I'm all for common sense measures to protect the environment, but I like to keep it real. The Seattle nonsense isn't about the environment, it's about control. I offer a quote by George Carlin. Sage or idiot? Depends on your perspective.

"The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference?"

I love George Carlin, but he's a comedian (RIP).

Making a comparison between natural phenomena over a span of 4,000,000,000 and modern human civilization which has a written history of 5,000 years as an argument to b!tch about plastic bags regulation pretty much follows my point of willful ignorance.

Is "saving the environment" the reason for the temporary grill ban or is it more a measure to prevent adding even more fine particulate matter into the air and thus into our lungs?
