How much Butt?

Having 10 adults and 7 kids over for Christmas eve. Most of the kids are smaller but a couple of teenagers. How much pork butt should I smoke - I was thinking two 7-8lbers.....What do you guys think?!?!

That amount should work with the rendered losses during the cook. Be sure to have a large enough grease catch pan, I had a near disaster when mine overflowed but I was cooking more than 2. If there are leftovers they freeze and reheat well.A poor widows son.

Should be lots and as has been mentioned, it freezes so well that leftovers are never a problem here. In fact my wife prefers I cook too much so she can grab it out of the freezer on busy nightsMt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

I always cook as close to 20lbs of butt as possible each time - got 21 lbs going on tonight as a matter of fact. I'd think this would feed 10 adults and 7 kiddos.

A good thumb rule for yield is about 50% of raw weight for finished pulled pork FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
