Caveman, reverse sear t-bones with salad and potato.

So I was tempted to have more leftover meatloaf tonight, but had a couple of t-bones that needed to be cooked or frozen, so I decided to cook them. Did a reverse sear slow to 120 internal then cranked up the coals and plopped the steaks on the hot coals, one at at time for about 60 seconds each side. Served with traditional sides of baked potato and salad.
Very good, but these were a little thin. Still tasty. I like caveman but as you can see in a couple of the pics, the char was a little much in places. No problem there though, scrape it off and keep on eating.

Glorious. I'm gonna try this on mine next time we do steaks

I don't see any too heavy char. I would rather have a little carbon here and there than a browned piec of meat.

Too much char? Where? Looks perfect to me.
I've done this a couple of times, but the lump always sticks to the meat. I just knock it off at the flip and keep cooking, but it's annoying.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Interesting, never thought to throw it directly on the charcoal...on the todo list thanks

What does the caveman technique do to the flavour?-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've never tried but I don't get what all the hype about caveman is. Wouldn't you get the same flavor just by getting close to the fire and sear like normal.?

The flavor was fantastic. Different from direct grilling or cast iron in it was smokier, more like cooking right over the fire when I was a kid out camping if that description makes any sense. As for getting the same by just getting close to the fire, yes I think so but this way is fun and fast (after the reverse sear). It is just another fun way to try cooking something, which is the whole point of egging anyway.
