Doing 3 racks of baby backs for me nephew today as part of this 16th birthday gift... they have been rubbed and in the fridge since Friday night. Trying some orange wood for smoke to see how it does, smells nice
Breakfast was brisket and eggs along with a Zing Zang & Titos bloody Mary
Have a great day!

I am curious about the Orange smoke myself. Here in California I am surrounded by orange trees but have never tried to smoke with orange wood. Looking forward to hearing about your experience with it. Staying tuned...

Where are you getting orange wood at Hap? I've used some from Spring pruning but, that's about it. I can imagine it gives a nice flavor to ribs though.

Hey @lilwooty, as a long time Californian I would be a little cautious about using commercial orange wood for smoking. I tend to be pretty cavalier about things like chemical exposure but I know most CA citrus orchards are heavily sprayed with organophosphate and carbamate insecticides. Most oak trees don't get the same exposure and you have LOTS of those around too.
Just a thought...

Here are some pics...
Breakfast was great; the deck smells amazing, and it's hard to beat a Zing Zang bloody with my favorite stick...
Ribs are getting close to sauce time.

I got a bag of some orange wood, but it is from mexico, my BGE dealer sells it, it is branded Santa Clara Valley Orangewood, it is here in California. I like it a lot, but it is not recognized on the Naked Whiz lump review, oh well. The food looks great by the way!

I would bet if you could orange tree wood from Mexico it would be pretty good. The orange's and other fruit grown there doesn't look like much, but sure tastes good. What kind of sauce did you use @hapster?XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo. -
