How are you lighting them? You should use a propane torch.

when I use my a-maze-n-smoker I take all the guts out of my Egg I open the bottom vent wide open and I have a staniless steel smoke wear cap that I open up wide then I light the pellets and let them burn burn for about 10 mins then blow it out and put into the egg on the bottom then I put the grill in the egg and whatever I'm smoking goes in and let it go all night until it burns out and every time in the morning all I have left is just ash in the A-Maze-N Smoker2 Large Eggs and a Mini 2 Pit Bulls and a Pork shoulder or butt nearby and 100% SICILIANLong Island N.Y.

+1 on the map torch...and i leave the touch on the pellets for about 30 seconds. I also light mine in my wood burning fireplace and let it go for 10-15 min before moving it to the egg.Making the neighbors jealous in Pleasant Hill, Ia one cook at a time...
