Haven't tried those two but do yourself a favor and try the Raising the Steaks, Raging River and the Tsunami Spin.

Did swamp venom on bb ribs this weekend. Just enough bite. I liked it. The wife asked if I did anything different....forgive me, I lied. She loved them but doesn't like hot. What you don't know.....
Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN
  • use them all the time. Both have a serious kick. use sparingly if you don't like heat. Delicious though. I use swamp on breakfast potatoes too. It's good on lots of stuff

I'm not a fan of raising the steaks.  Don't get me wrong, its good, just not as good as all the hype it gets on this board. I do, however, love red eye express.

I like heat, but it turns out that I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to it.  How hot are these two (SW and JFW)?  Jalapeno hot or habanero hot?

Really enjoy swamp venom on pork. I like both DP steak rubs.
  • I like the Swamp Venom, the Jamaican Firewalk was just ok. If you haven't tried any of their other rubs do yourself a favor and buy the $10 sampler. I got one as a stocking stuffer and found a few that we love. Raging River on Salmon, Tsunami Spin on wings, Shakin' the Tree on chicken, Raising the Steaks is great on filet and NY Strip and even on brisket. The wife and I tried the Pineapple Head sample on some pork chops tonight....excellent.

+1 - Raising the Steaks is just "ok", not as good as regular ole Montreal Seasoning. I do like Tsunami Spin and Raging River.

I've tossed my Tony Cachere's and just use Swamp Venom in its place now for all kinds of cooks. Firewalk must have gotten pushed to the back of the spice rack as it hasn't seen mucn use lately. Need to move it to the front so it doesn't get ignored. Great on wings.

Thanks for that tip. Just ordered a sampler pack plus the "ish" samples. Wish other rub makers offered sampler packs.

I like the Cow Lick rub, I use it on Briskets and a whole Beef Tenderloin I did at Thanksgiving.

I love the original, fine on poultry and coarse on red meat. I add cayenne or Indian white chili for kick

I love the firewalk on wings. Just picked up the swamp venom today. Can't wait to try it on wings this weekend. I have a number of their rubs and like them all.

Simply Marvelous also used to offer a sampler, but I cannot find it anymore now that they are partnered with Big Poppa Smokers.

I use SV mixed w. DD for most of my ribs. SV has a nice cayenne zing. My wife finds anything hotter too hot.

Not me. Firewalk is the hottest of the DP rubs, and it is good. Not quite as fierce as Walkerwood's from Jamaica, but less bitter and and more citrusy. But if I want pure heat, I use the SV & DD mix, and finish with El Yucateco habanero sauce.

I'll defend my praise of Raisin' the Steaks. Ran out, so went to the local market, and got McCormick's Montreal Rub. Good, but not a replacement as far as i was concerned.

I think this thread has convinced me to try more than just the dizzy dust.

The Simply Marvelous sampler was a collection of full size shakers about $70 dollars I think for a lot of rub. My sampler has lasted a while and there's not a bad one in the bunch. I do like something spicier though, so I sometimes add Slap Yo Mama red.

Oak Ridge BBQ has some great stuff too. Their habanero death dust is about the best thing there is for wings.

  • I really like the Pineapple head flavor. I usually put that on thick cut pork chops and its awesome.

I also used the Pineapple Head in combination with their Jalapeno rub on some BB ribs this summer. wasnt paying much attention to how much and exactly what i did at the time, but they were the best all year. still trying to chase that flavor again.

Depends on how much you use but I would say jalapeno. I'm sure it's from Cayenne but it will get ya if you put too much on....and I'm not a wuss when it comes to spicy food.
