My BGE dome thermo is shot...corporate will send a replacement but would purchasing a tel-tru be better? My dome thermo jumps around...cooked a pizza and it wouldn't go past 300 and my maverick is screwed up too.Why do they sell crappy probes?

One thing to be careful of with he Maverick is to make sure you route the probe wires so they don't come in contact with direct heat. I only use my Maverick for low and slow cooking and always am sure to route it where the plate setter shields it from direct heat.

They have upgraded the dome thermometers. Tel Tru does now make the BGE thermometers.CheersChris

I only use my maverick under 350. My egg was purchased in August...wonder when they updated?Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

Do your Maverick probes have 36" or +60" probe leads? The short ones are the old ones. The new ones are a PITA to get caught on stuff but they do work. Foil wrap and keep away from direct heat.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

@henapple - I contacted Maverick and was sent new long probes, under warranty. I think they had an issue with the old ones and knew it, seemed to be replaced very quickly. Mine just quit working or would give way off readings.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Before that. I bought my FIL a new large in June and it had one. Verified today.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
I ordered a couple of these cheap Fluke knock-offs a few days ago. They're k-type dual channel digital. $18 each. Price has since gone up a few bucks. I bought them for non-egg related stuff, like monitoring my keg temp, and beer fridge, wine storage, etc.

Maybe it would work as a cheapo egg monitor. I'll report back. Haven't received them yet.
