Received about 4lbs of beef short ribs from a friend. Never cooked them before. Any advice?

my favorite way to do short ribs is put a hard sear on them on the egg then braise them. otherwise, they need to go low and slow (250 or so, indirect) until they are fork tender. I have a great braise recipe if you want to do them that way. Just let me know if you would like it.

Sure- If you have ever made a roast, you have braised. braising is cooking tougher cuts (generally) in flavored liquid. It breaks the connective tissue down and makes the meat fork tender. it also keeps all the flavor from the meat stays in the braising liquid making it more complex as it cooks.
I'll find the recipe I use and post it here for you. Last time I did them, they were a huge hit (it's not my original recipe, I got it from cook's illustrated I think).

It was actually food network. These ribs are amazing. The only changes I made was to do the sear on the egg instead of in the pot and I added Rosemary to the herb bundle.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
Chris Lilly has a recipe that I have done a few times and really like:
