I know we have all heard about fast cook ribs, butts and briskets but this was a first for me.
This past Sunday I was cooking wings. I decided to look through a few BBQ cookbooks for new recipes. One intrigued me until I got to the cooking directions. The recipe said cook over medium heat for 7 minutes then flip wings and cook another 7 minutes, then eat and enjoy.. :S
No where in the recipe did it mention par boiling or anything. Just cook 14 minute total then eat...I passed on the recipe..anyone else ever heard of 14 minute wings and would you eat them after 14 minutes????
Just asking...

Nope and Nope... that might give a good sear on the out side at a higher temp.. but med heat?? i would want at least another 30 minute min to get them a little more done!
-
I agree Julie...and this is a very popular BBQ cookbook...it is at home so I forget the name....but 14 minutes??? :S
-
Here in Buffalo, NY, we deep fry them at 375 for 12 minutes. Can't imagine at that temp, on the grill it'd be much different. Put a hole in one and if the juices run clear, that'd be a good sign. Never did them on the grill. Good luck.
Another thing is, here they're cut into sections, not left whole. More surface area for the wings to cook. -
OK, you go first.
Sounds very bad.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Hmmmm???
Mine usually take about 45 min. to an hour or so @350-375.
After reading your post I googled and came up with a 15 to 20 grilling article. Me, I'll stick to the way I'm doing it for now unless other egger's chime in with more info.
Thanks,
Bordello

I agree with you 45 minutes to 1 hour sounds better to me...

I do mine longer, but do them indirect. Are these done direct? Wings are not that large. Steaks can cook throughout in less time than that, granted its at a higher temp. Also that may not be for our type of cooker. Maybe the one they refer to has the wings closer to the heat. Who knows. Unless I missed something and this was a book for the EGG.
-
Nope not the BGE cookbook..even direct on medium heat I think they wouldn't be done enough for my taste.
They only say your grill on medium... :ermm: -
OK. I quote. BGE cookbook, page 39, Appetizers, Mesquite Lemon-Pepper Wings with Creamy Feta Dressing. "Place the chicken on the Grid and baste with the olive oil mixture. Close the lid of the Egg. Turn the chicken wings every few minutes, basting often, close the lid each time. Grill for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crisp. Season with the reserved garlic mixture and cook for another minute."
Sorry, they say preheat the Egg to 500%.
Hope this helps. -
