why would my new cast iron grate have crack along center line 3 planks worth?

I bought at mother ship mid april already has crack thought it was able to handle high heat

I assume it's a large? I cracked 5 in under a year (all replaced under warranty). I finally just got a spider and small CI grid to sear down low. 2 years running and no cracks. I just think the large is too big to support itself.

There is no harm in trying your local dealer, people buy from egg dealer and move all over the country all the time. You did buy it from the most authorized of all dealers, should not be a problem. Try the local guys, and if there is push back, talk to the mothership. 

Further to what Cen-Tex says, I know two with LBGE CI grids that have had trouble. Never heard of a MBGE CI or SBGE CI (if they make one) having an issue.

if your dealer is good, he should take care of you. mine switched them all out for me

I've had 3 crack. Mine stays in my LG.  Each replacement has been done under warranty. I believe it has either a 3 or 5 yr warranty.

I will try my local dealer im going to do fresh red snapper tonight on it anyway

Mine did the same thing 3 years ago. I'm still using it with no problems. I recently warranty claimed it with my local dealer. Once replaced I won't use the new one until the old one breaks completely.

FWIW mine is cracked and is still quite useable. New one lies in the shed.

@NPHuwkerFL im going cedar plank my son caught it Saturday on charter boat the deck hands skinned it so im not sure of other way could use fish grate?

@Jeepster47... interesting that my local dealer just told me the CI grate is only covered in the first year. Are they mistaken?

mine cracked same place, cut that section off and you have a place to add wood chips

• Warranty on Big Green Egg Components: Click here for details
• Ceramic components, including dome, base, fire box and fire ring – Limited Lifetime Warranty to original purchaser from Authorized Dealer
• Ceramic EGGcessories, including ConvEGGtor and Pizza/Baking Stones – 3 Year Warranty
• Metal Components, including EGG band, stainless steel cooking grid, cast iron  charcoal grate and EGG Nest – 5 Year Warranty
• Temperature Gauge – 1 Year Warranty

So yes, I'd say your dealer is wrong.

Just talked to my dealer again. They are checking with the Mothership. Methinks an approved warranty claim will be in my near future. Thanks @Jeepster47.
