Yup. Almost got the house

No table nest?

You got lucky!
What is the home depot bucket? Did the fire start there?
Looks like your bands are done for.. is the ceramic ok?Medium, and XL eggs in Galloway NJ. Just outside of Atlantic City. -
Did a simple chicken roast, closed it up and a neighbor woke me up several hours later to a huge fire. Don't ever store wool under the table. Big mistake
-
Glad everything ended up ok. Next time someone asks if they need a space between the table and their Egg or patio block please just post this picture.XL BGE, LG BGE, and a hunger to grill everything in sight!!!Joe- Strongsville, OH

I have old skool feet it was sitting on and a fire stone. Who knows how it started
-
I could be wrong here. But it would appear that because there is no air gap your egg has literally smoldered through your table. Bummer man. The only thing that looks like might have got damaged is the hinge assembly and bands. Any damage?
Side note: nobody hurt and no property loss. Table nest next time.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
I have no proof, but I believe the pavers and stones are not helpful. They heat up and are in constant contact with the wood and do not allow for the heat to dissipate as it would with the feet alone or the table nest. I think the table nest is an upgrade from the feet as it raises the egg slightly higher and has less surface area touching the wood. Table nest is a very good investment. You were lucky.
-
That is awful. Did it start because you didn't have a spacer between the bottom of the egg and the table?
The important thing is that you and your family are ok and of course your house. The egg and the table can easily be replaced.
You owe your neighbor a nice thick steak.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's -
The table nest is $30 well spent. I can stick my hand between the egg and table even at high temps. When I bought it my table was getting discolored under the paver in 4 months time.
-
Thats scary. I literally just ordered a table nest. Mine is currently sitting on 3 pavers but I'm not taking any chances.

Glad it was only material things that took the hit. Dodged a major bullet for sure. Huge thanks to your neighbor. Air gap is worth creating-beats any solid surface.
And with the BGE closed up, you would think it had to be the table wood, even with the feet. But that's just pure speculation.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
I'd be all over a stainless table for your next table! Count your blessings. My neighbors house burnt down to the ground from his Weber grill. It can happen so quick and quietly. Scary stuff. How long has the wood been in the elements? Sooner or later, mother nature wins.

Mine is on a brick, and I need to change it...but I also don't put it near the house...usually at least 10-12' away.

Lucky. Hard to believe it, but an air gap is your friend.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

That is scary. I use the table nest and a paver just for peace of mind.

Glad to know the fire was contained and didn't get truly ugly. On a brighter note, there are some nice table designs on this site.

Looking closely at the first pic, it looks like a floor tile was involved. Check out the warp on it.

Time to invest in a better setup for my egg. No doubt that I dodged a bullet. We were about to go to bed. -
Any chance you have a setup before the fire????LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

I remember wanting a table setup for my egg, however after seeing these type of post too many times, I'll stick to my egg nest.
Glad it wasn't too serious. Take care.Dave

On my new table I have the egg nest sitting on top of 3/16" steel. The steel is sitting on the wood. I am hopeful that is enough of a barrier to prevent a fire.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

Glad disaster was averted.
I narrowly avoided burning my house down last winter when my Weber gasser (on a screened in porch) caught a grease fire from burgers on a very windy night. I had to drag the burning beast out of the porch and push it off the covered patio into the yard, then remember where the darn fire extinguisher was.....scary scary stuff.
