Beautiful sunrise. The sargassum weed at the high tide line makes me homesick.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

Great pictures, Kristi !  Houston should have gotten one (sniff ... sniff ...).

I wonder why they needed a fighter escort.  I don't recall anyone ever highjacking a Space Shuttle.

Very nice pics. I agree with the role Houston has had with NASA, should be one there. Guess that's just the politics.

This is why it infuriates me that facebook is the largest photosharing service in the world. Flickr is so much better!

    Thanks for the pics Kristi!
I worked on the Shuttle boosters at Thiokol for two years (yeah, I was actually a rocket scientist! :D ).  Got to see several static tests of a single booster on the ground, but never got to see the whole bird fly...
    :(

Think Moonraker! I guess James Bond was busy so a fighter jet escort was the next best thing.

Hahaha... No, I was barely chugging-away that early this morning. :)

But... I grew up with the shuttle program and can't help but get emotional every time.  I knew I needed to get out there this morning to say goodbye.  So glad I did.

    Fantastic pics. Thanks for sharing!

I remember when I moved to Sarasota I was on a sales call and the guy said, "Come outside and watch the shuttle launch." I looked at him like he was nuts being the shuttle launched from the other side of the state. Sure enough, we could see the vapor trail. Very cool!

I have the escort in another shot when it was further away.  That picture was a bit blurry so it wasn't worthy of posting, although I could start some UFO rumors with it :D

  • What wonderful pictures!  They evoke an emotional response with me.  Pride in our nation for wha the shuttles achieved and sadness that they will never fly again.  I said this in the similar thread a couple of weeks ago that it's a low down dirty shame what's happened to the Space Program!
