OK, 1) that may be the coolest pumpkin ever; and 2) I was deathly afraid to open this post for fear of any photos that may have been recently taken without my knowledge in, say, the past 5-6 days.

Hi All
We had a heavy rain last Friday evening and after it had stooped I stuck my head out the door to see how much standing water there was. Plenty! The local roads were well flooded which happens a few times each summer. The heavy rain had brought out a flourish of activity in the local wildlife and I was greeted by this age old cycle around my patio flood light.
There were several small Dragon Flies that had been attracted to the light, they were all about 1 1/2" long. They were probably feeding on the tiny little No-See-Um's.
Feeding on them was a Cuban Tree Frog. Not our prettiest tree frog, they can be toxic to pets that are foolish enough to eat them. They have a poison in their skin that is not lethal to humans but you would not want to handle one and then rub your eyes. They also have the not so pleasant habit of peeing when the are startled/scared and jump, often spraying what ever scared them. I have seen these frogs over populate to the point where there would be ten or so gathered on each window in my trailer hunting insects attracted to the lights at night. They have an unpleasant call similar to someone running their hands over a wet rubber toy balloon. Lying in bed at night it was not unusual to hear one make a bad jump and land in the big fan on the top of the AC unit, a noisy and gruesome end to a tree frog. Fortunately their numbers are no where near what they use to be and I only see them on occasion.

Warm weather, plenty of rain and a full belly was probably all it took to get this one to leave a few eggs behind. These critters are not very smart and the eggs will not last the first couple hours of sun.
Sunday morning found me getting ready to practice cooking ribs again. I am determined to get my ribs the way I like them . . . I hope it happens soon, I have been eating a lot of ribs! After I got the ribs on the Big Green Egg I sat down on the steps to watch the thermometer for a spell just to make sure it was stabilized. That is when I spotted this monster!

Or at least he looks like a monster up close, actually just a tiny little guy about 3/8" across. I believe it to be a Running Crab Spider (Philodromidae) of which there are over 500 species in the U.S. So named because they are good runners and move sideways like a true crab. I didn't think to disturb it to see how it to see how it ran, maybe I should have. It has well developed eyes typical of the active hunters that seek out their pray rather then like the passive hunters that build and hunt from a web. It also appears that it's largest and most dominant pair of eyes are on the sides of it head, advantageous to one that runs sideways maybe. Spiders usually have 6 or most often 8 eyes but can have as few as 0. I think I see 6 on this one. A cool little critter.

Have a great Woosday all,
Blair
P.S. The ribs were the best yet! :cheer: -
re: 2.) ...so by extended logic, was that tacit approval that i can post pictures which were taken with your knowledge?
and 1.) ...you never saw that frankenstein's lab punkin before?
i pimped it pretty good last year here. -
Oh I saw the pumpkin, it is just my favorite of your creations. Fantastic work, though I don't know how you find the time to complete them in your ever-pressing schedule.
And no, there is no permission to post any photos unless you happened to have taken one of the twin hams under pressed glass. -
I may have to spend this Wednesday looking for a new camera. I love to view all the posted pictures and need to be sharing more of our lives with you all.
-
Again with the ham shots???...another Moons over myHammy photo??? At least this one was not at my house.
 :woohoo:
:silly: :pinch: -
"pressing schedule" hahahaa you meant to add a smiley, no?
the chief accomplishment of my life is constructing my work-a-day world to be as minimal as possible. given the choice between time and money, i'll take time every time. rather than bronzed and gilt, my coffin will be pine, and probably home-made.
or they can throw me in the compost pile, just like the punkin. tempus fugit!
i remember your telling me about how meat processors shave the pork skin rather than simply singeing it, to get the hair off. if the pressed hams had received the same treatment, they'd have been more photogenic. -
we got dinged for an "excess windex fee" from the house rental contact

My wife bought this for me & says it is us...what would you say??
