Doing some high heat grilling and the dome won't close correctly. It tilts to a side and won't close all the way.

Any ideas?

    Eggers Prayer-

Our egg, which art in sizes, hallowed be thy smoke, thy will be grilled, at home as it is at eggfest. Give us this clay our daily brisket and forgive us our rubs, as we forgive those who gas grill against us, and lead us not to flashback but deliver us from overnighters. For thine is the grill, the smoke, the egg. Let's eat!

Spray the hinges with WD-40 or similiar product. Happened to mine a few times. Now I regularly spray them down.

Heat has caused the bands to expand and the hinges are no longer aligned.
  • The fire is holding at 600. What's the best way to cool it off without being able to close the lid?

Loosen the bolts that hold the hinges to the bands. It should allow the dome to unbind.

have someone help you hold the dome up until you can get those loose. Or just lift it up a little and put something in it. to hold it open until you can get them loose.

    Bernardo,

Have you ot a Co2 fire extinguisher. If you do just lay in Co2 every few minutes and the fire will die.

  • Thanks for the tips. Looks like the top band slipped some. I transfered the lump into my old charcoal grill and let it burn there.

Your very last photo shows you problem area.
Loosen the nut and bolt at the joint pictured in your last photo.
Also make sure the end of the bolt and or the nut are not making contact with your band. Loosen the nut/bolt on both sides of your egg.
If this joint in the hinge systems binds it will cause your problem.
Easy temp fix but spraying will not solve issue. Neither will loosening the bolts that hold hinge to band. It is the hinge joints.
I ended up taking the bolt off and grinding it a little shorter. Never had issue again.
    Hope this helps.
