Its my birthday tomorrow actually, but me and the misses decided to do a big BBQ on Saturday to celebrate it with friends. I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica for work so it was good to see everyone in person rather than through email for a change.
I based the menu on the Brazilian/Portugeuse market find that I made last weekend. I did 7 pounds of skirt steak marinaded in tequila/lime along with several other spices. Likewise, I made about 3 1/2 pounds of linguisa chorizo sausage. Turned out amazing.
The star of the show was the cake the wife made for me. All hand made, with all the things that I hold dear in life.
On to the pics.
Starting off with some pics of Costa Rica. Here is the Arenal Volcano, went there on the weekend between my work weeks in San Jose. A little spooky that the volcano is actually smoking.
One of the big highlights of the trip for me. I went to this amazing waterfall near La Fortuna to do some swimming.
Here I am after swimming, the current was brutal, but I'm a great swimmer so I actually got to the cave behind the falls. Was pretty amazing.
Now for the welcome home party.
The linguisa rocking on the grill.
The star of the show, homemade cake starring the gum paste bunnies and of course an edible egg.
Some reference material for the bunnies. My boys!
The aftermath, all fondant bunnies were summarily executed either by party goers or by the the bunnies themselves by being fed to them alive. I can still hear the screams. The egg received a stay of execution.
I just couldn't bring myself to eat something so cool. Maybe tonight.
Great trip and B-day.

That's cool...my dealer threw a party for her customers this spring, and had a local baker do a fancy BGE cake. It was awesome...about the size of a mini. Sadly, I was without my camera.

Happy Birthday, very cool.....Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

Actually I bought the sausage from a Brazilian shop. They have a butcher there that makes them in house. Where do you happen to live? The market is in Arlington, VA.

Thats an awesome cake. You have to love a big green egg that you can eat.

Looks like it was an awesome trip.... what a beautiful country. The color of the swimming hole is an amazing blue.
Nice birthday cake... Your wife is a talented cake decorator!

I live in Melboooring Fl. There is a porteguese shop I buy some brazalian and porteguese items from, but it is just a little shop that imports everything except the fresh bread and some pastries.
Used to hang around Alexandria in the mid '60's. Nice area to shop, but alas it snows there and I left in '67 for warmer parts, SE Asia, Hawaii, Southern Ca and now Florida for the past 32 years.. -
