Change Gasket on brand new egg

Cookin Corvette Doug
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Just purchased my first egg (XL BGE). Dealer recommended that I change to a Nomex gasket before it is ever fired up. Since I am new to this, any thoughts?

Save the Nomex for down the road replacement. My original felt gaskets lasted over three years with heavy use. And when I replaced the gasket I stayed with the felt. Going on two years and still looking good. ;)
A poor shot of my gasket but you can make out its condition.

    Good luck, have fun!
Do a bunch of cooks under 350 dome first to cure the adhesive used to attach the gaskets before going to high temp cooks. ;)
