I got an emergency text today from LC, saying that ALL the TV news stations are warning us in South Florida that a storm was a brewin and a comin our way. I text back to her, "Grab the Eggs and Run!". Sure enough, when I got home all the TV news channels were hyping this TS "Bonnie" like it was a CAT 4 complete with spagetti models and the "Cone of Death" chart. What should a Bubba do?
I think I will fill up the Bubba Keg with some sasparilla and chill out. We are getting innundated with news about shelters, sand bag stations, Emergency Operation Center Alerts and so on..It must be a slow news day. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Here in the Midwest, they do that with snow forecasts. The weathermen compete to see who can predict the heaviest fall - without jumping the meteorological shark - so everyone will watch their broadcast. Then we get 3" of the 3-5" the ratings-loser forecast predicted and everyone sighs a sigh of relief.

My personal belief is Jim Cantore is a Lighting Rod for Hurricanes! Think about it, you never hear of a Hurricane until Big Jim shows up, then all Hell breaks loose! There he is, in his $500 Patagonia storm gear facing the wrath of Mother Nature, dodging flying mini vans, all the while telling us stuff we need to know, wind velocities, barometric pressures, etc, while we sit at home placing bets on whether or not he will be blown away on live TV! We can't possibly change the channel! We sit glued to TWC for hours, maybe days!Hurricanes + Jim = Ratings! :silly: :P

My wife is named Bonnie. There was another Hurricane Bonnie a while back that hit North Carolina. The paper here in Dallas had a headline that read " Bonnie Crawls Ashore in North Carolina". That stayed on the fridge for years. Then the Dallas Zoo had an elephant give birth to a calf named Bluebonnet, Bonnie for short. The headline shortly after read " Bonnie weighs 300 pounds!" No kidding! On the fridge it went.Bonnie got as big a laugh as I did. :woohoo: :ermm:

Hahahahaha, I haven't listened to the news since this morning. They were playing it down saying we are on the dry side. Looks like we still are. Sounds good to me, the radiator went in my car this morning and I'm not moving it till Monday.

I egged pork tenderloins this afternoon so's I wouldn't have to get wet this weekend. ;)

You may want to re-think Brian since you are on the dirty side of the storm..lots of rain and wind..not the dry side...

  • Yes Tim, you and Michelle are in the cone of death. Those of us on the the west coast of FL are hearing we may get some showers, maybe a 50% chance of rain - that means they can't decide - they think some of us might get wet! Just not sure until it happens!

The ramifications for the oil spill area, and the areas affected by the spill is a complete unknown. Everybody cross your fingers!

Agreed Faith...Hope all goes well for them in the upper gulf region! Hopefully Bonnie will cross over enough land to decrease the changes of intensifying in the gulf. Thankfully, the cap is still holding, but we all know there are millions and millions of gallons floating around out there. :(
Jim Cantore arrived in North Miami today. Hopefully nobody told Bonnie!

Re. Jim Cantora. Good friend in Jacksonville FL noted several years ago that upon flying into Jax Cantora was on the plane. Noted that this is never a good sign, Jim Cantora comin' to your town! Good luck down there.

Oh yeah, sorry, that and his shaved head! :P I'm just kidding, there is not enough money for me to do what that man does, and he enjoys it! :P Reminds me of Jim what's his name that was on with Marlin Perkins years ago. "Now Jim is gonna climb out on the fender of our Land Rover and slip this little noose over the head of the Water Buffalo we are pursuing at 40mph over the open Serenghetti [sic], while I enjoy my lunch!"
"OK Marlin, whatever you say,I got my cast off yesterday" :P

Get out - get out now!!! I live in Mobile and have a healthy respect for hurricanes but get so tired of all the media coverage every time a cloud forms off the coast of Africa. I have no doubt that in the morning I will be greeted by staff members asking if they have to come to work on Monday (the answer is always the same - yes - we work for a hospital, we don't close for hurricanes). Geesh - on the other hand - we have to keep an eye on the weather and use common sense - and of course stock up on eggcessories just in case.:kiss::kiss:

Yes - Jim is the hurricane magnet - he almost bought the farm in Biloxi a few years back with Katrina. As I recall he was reporting from the coast and holed up in the VA Hospital - definitely having underestimated the storm. Around here, everyone says "where's Jim Cantore" and put our odds on that location as a sure bet for a direct hit!

It is really the cone of much destruction. Just roll the eggs in the garage, you'll be OK. A storm won't mess with a bubba.

Of course that reminds me of the joke, "what does a hurricane in FL, a divorce in GA and a tornado in AL have in common"

elzbth...I think we are going to secure the kayaks to the roof, and sleep in our life vests just in case...  As you are also familiar, we get worse weather in an afternoon thunderstorm!! Our media has a bad case of "Henny Penny the SKY is FALLING!!!" Best to you in Mobile. Hope your coast stays clean. ;)
