I know i mentioned a few weeks past about the documentary movie just out about the frozen chosin battle of the korean war that was just released. ...well, the two guys that made the movie are having a free screening of it at a theater in columbus ohio on 24 july. ...if any of you in the area (and i know you dayton eggers are only an hour and a half away). . .again, this is a fantastic documentary of a forgotten battle from a forgotten war. ... here is a link to the details and link to register to go if you are interested. ...

no, the two guys that made the movie were marines. ..almost all the interviews were with ex marines. . ..dad and i figured out that maybe three of the interviewees were army vets of the battle. .one is obvious, the other 2 we figured out from what they had to say and our knowledge of the campaign. ..when we talked to the two of them after the screening, they didn't even know about my dad's unit and it's role in the battle. .. i sent them a long email with dad's history there. ...haven't heard back from them yet. ...

good for you .. .its a great movie. ...

two myths though ....the marines didn't fight their way 78 miles to the sea ... .they fought their way 34 miles to chinhung ni where 3rd infantry division had forced its perimiter up from the sea to meet and hold for them to get there. ...and it wasn't just the marines. ...there was a bunch of army guys in there with them that served honorably as well. .. .they just didn't get the recognition for a long, long time. ...

enjoy it though, its very well done, and all the vets that were there are honored by it!!

Portions of the proceeds go to Injured Marines Project and the Wounded Warrior program. How could I not buy the DVD..

All I can say Max if your father was even remotely involved in Chosin I will shake his hand one day.. It is people like him that are the real heroes..

google, norman r. rosen combat comes suddenly

in 1952 he wrote a chapter in a book called "combat support in korea", basically a text book for army engineers. . .that chapter tells the story about his company's action on the night of 28/29 november 1950 at the reservoir. ...but he was there from 27 november, and then for the entire march out of the chosin with the 1st marines through 12/13 december when they reentered 3rd ID lines. ... but while the marines got to go straight down to the docks at hungnam and board ships back to pusan south korea, dad's company of army engineers got re-assigned back into 3rd ID and were the last men off the beaches at hungnam as they evacuated north korea on christmas morning 1950, blowing the docks up as they went. ...
