Hi Everyone! Just got my egg last night and took some pics of my first cook. Nothing too exciting but, it sure tasted great! I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from everyone here.
New Egg
Pork Loin Marinated in EVOO, Garlic, Salt, Pepper and Thyme
3/4 done
All done and looking good!
Goodness!
Over all I amazed at how easy it was to control and maintain the temp. This summer is going to be fantastic!

Welcome, and congrats on what looks like a great first cook. That loin looks really tasty!

I'm impressed, not only with your cook but you posted pics on your very first post, good job! -RP

Give that same loin a direct heat cook next time.
Skip the plate setter. The nice little char will add to the great flavor. A little cherry wood will also add to the color and flavor. It will only get better...

I was just happy that I was able to cook something edible my first time out.

Looks way better than my first Egg cook. Just tossing out a couple easy tips I learned on the forum.
Keep them coming.

Welcome aboard and that does look very good.

Very nice! Nothing like the excitement of the first cook.
A word of caution: I see the Egg is on a wooden deck. Be watchful for possible sparks coming out the bottom vent. I know it doesn't happen very often but there is a potential for it. A neighbor had a coal get lodged between the boards on his deck and didn't see it until it as too late. He burned off the backside of his house. :( -
Great job - that looks fantastic!

Quadzilla, Great post. Welcome to the forum. Tim

Thanks everyone!
One quick question. Is it safe to go high temp (600 degrees) this soon or should I do a few cooks at a lower temp. -
Quadzilla, Nice cook! Welcome to the club. This forum has saved my butt (and other cooks) many times. You're among friends here.
You're right. It's going to be a great summer. Keep the pics coming! -
Very Nice

Quad, I am not sure what the concensus is for high heat cooks right away but I did a high heat cook on my second cook and my gasket took a hit. Not sure if it would have mattered or not. Very nice first cook by the way.

Quadzilla, During the time I have been using this forum I have seen a lot of posts where new owners of the BGE have experienced a cooked gasket because they went high heat on a relatively new egg. I have heard some say to cook using lower temp cook until the gasket materials heat up over the course of several cooks in order for the gasket material to adhere to the egg. Just saying. Tim
