Just to let you know: I called my dealer this morning and he will be ordering me a new gasket. Not the NOMEX one, but hey, I'm not paying, so who am I to start complaining? ;)

I just lifted my egg's cover, and the felt gasket stayed glued to the bottom... It melted!

I have been using my egg for 2 days! Should I call my dealer?

Why not...they may just tell you it got too hot too early in it's life cycl but then again, maybe they will give you a new gasket.

Problem is you'll likely have to put it on. This first test will let you know how good your local dealer is probably...Good Luck. My gasket died a year ago, not willing to put a weekend into replacing it yet. Keep On Eggin'

I melted mine after about two weeks of sub-350 cooks. First time I cranked it up above that, they melted. I emailed my dealer with a pic and he got me the Nomex replacement at no charge. The way I look at it is, if the EGG will go to 6/7/800 degrees, every PART of the egg should do so as well. That is not what the warranty says though. The gasket and temp gauge are specifically excluded. Give it a shot - ask for Nomex.

Oh yeah, you have a Large, right? The part number is NMGKHDL.

The gasket on my Lrg that I purchased 10/08 was covered by Bruce at the mothership.

Note: If you go with the Nomex route, be sure to pre-shrink on high in dryer for 20-30 minutes.

    Good Luck!

Call the mothership and ask for bruce. He will ask you to e-mail him a little info and he'll send you the nomex. I burned mine and I had a replacement from him in a week. In meantime I put parchment paper, you could use alum foil, between dome and base so melted gasket wouldn't stick together.

I would scrape what's left of the old gasket off and cook without one until you get whatever replacement you are going to use. Don't see that foil or parchment would accomplish much.

As I understand it, lots of folks here have never bothered to replace theirs. I trashed the gasket on my mini several weeks ago. Scraped off the worst one, left the remains of the other one in place and have been cooking on it ever since. Seems to hold temps just fine. The only bad thing is, now there's less of a cushion so need to close the dome gently. :)

If you've ever had a dome stuck to the base you'll see real quick how much parch or alum can help

If there's no gasket, how can it stick? Maybe I should scrape off the other one. :)

Perhaps the issue is I posted under wrong comment. I was implying ms, the original poster, may want to use someting to keep her dome from sticking. I'm sure she's aggrivated with the issue and wanted to help her eliminate the frustration of "unsticking" the dome, since she still has a top and bottom gasket which is now melting.

BTW, I'm not sure why my name changed, but it did. When I use from mobile I occasionally get a different handle than when using pc.

    Thanks! That's reassuring!

I'll be scraping off the top gasket tomorrow (hoping it's not stuck  ). I will still be calling my dealer, but at least I now know that a gasket is not a must for cooking, so I can still cook that salmon and that chicken I had planned for tomorrow!

    :)
  • I burned up my gasket on my 3rd cook. Big fire, over 700 degrees for over 2 hours. Flames shooting out top, ribs turned into ash, lots of neighbors laughing on their back porches. Moral of story is don't go to Target with wife and grandchildren and be gone 2 hours instead of 20 min.

Cooked without gasket, no problem. Put nomex gasket on in less than 45 min, works fine. Recently messed up gasket under spring hinge, will fix it some time...soon...or maybe not, works without it just fine. Egg is very forgiving.
