New dome for XL?

Bonjour,

I remember when I first came here and started asking for advice on buying a large or an extra-large Egg, many mentionned that the XL was supposed to come with a more "egg-like" dome in 2010, instead of the flat dome it had at the moment.

However, I haven't found any picture of an XL with the new dome on BGE's Web site, and I wonder if they will make it at all?

I have decided on a large, for now, but since I haven't got it yet, I am still considering an XL. But I would much prefer it with the egg-like dome...

Is it coming out, or not?

Thanks!

Funny that you should ask; as I just got off the phone with BGE where they very helpfully gave me the number of my area's master distributor. The nex XLs are evidently shipping and available as master/retail distributors move out the old stock. The MI/OH MD had them ready to ship as of today.
A big thanks to Bacchus for suggesting that I skip over my local dealer (no help) and simply call BGE for the skinny.
I'm now down to my local dealer to see what his story is after nearly a week of waiting and plenty of stock at his master distributor all along...

$1.115.00 ($1.1181.00 w/tax) ; Full MSRP ($133.00) on the nest (declined); no stock; no offer of delivery.

Wish that I knew what the markup was on these things from the Master Distributor...

    very nice eggollection ! :)

Just a question. What´s the reason for changing the dome ? Only optical or also functional ?

I´m currently thikin´ ´bout buying a XL. And I fear it will take a long time, until all old XL´s in the European / German stocks are sold... and new ones are over here...

So, the chance for me is quite good to get an old one...

    Any troubles with this ?

Both domes work good.I think the new dome gives a little more room in side and it cooks more like the large egg.Having said that I would buy witch ever one I could get.

I seem to remember someone saying that that there was a firebox modification (don't quote me) along with the new dome introduction...something to do with more slits cut for better expansion/contraction.

I would also take the advice given here about contacting BGE and getting the number of their master distributor in Europe/Germany. They will know what the dealers can order, when and/or how many need to be sold.

just 2"? The rounder shape makes the dome at least taller near the outer edges doesn't it? Then will the new one also have the narrower fire ring and shorter firebox so capacity-wise there is much more room between an old style and new - right?

The way I understand it is that nothing's changed save a little more headroom at the 'peak' area; which I have a hard time believing cooks any different (coming from a guy whose wife won't let him cook... :) ).
