Wiggle Rod Dimensions

I picked up a 3/16"x3' rod today and intend on bending it into a wiggle rod. Are there some basic dimensions I should be aware of? It will be for a LBGE.

I kind of eyeballed mine. The part that goes into the holes to clear ash needs to be long enough to get up through the holes into the fire box - about 2 - 3". The rod part needs to be long enough that you do not stick your hand through the vent hole - about 16". I used the excess rod to make a handle that is "T" shaped. I ended up cutting a bit off the poker end and the handle end once I got it all bent the way I wanted.

I made my own. 18 inches long and 2 3/8 inches with a blunt point The length of the T handle is up top you.

This wiggle stick works great for me I can poke up from the bottom or I can stick it down through the food grate and around the plate setter to stir the lump into the middle if I have a vertical burn during a long cook with out taking out the food.

That's what I needed to see. Thank you. Does the double wiggle rod work better than the single or does it have a specific function? I was thinking of drilling out a piece of dowel for a handle rather than having the T.

Kirk that is not a wiggle rod it is a grid lifter that is a close copy of thirdeyes third hand grid lifter.

Here's the one I use. It's an old Weber rotisserie rod, bent at the tip. I use it on every cook.

Eggin might be a whole new world to ya...but do yourself a favor and dont over complicate it..relax and enjoy...if a recipe calls for 250° and your egg wants to burn at 235° just leave it be..and cook whatever it is for a little longer..if it burns hotter, cook it less time..the egg learning curve is relatively small..once you have learned to control and stabalize the egg..the rest is just bells and whistles..

The overall length is up to you, depending on the type of handle you have. You want enough stick out (from the lower vent) to maneuver it easily. I make the length of the L just over 3" for a large Egg. Mine have a T handle, so the overall is around 14-1/2".

Kirk, Jupter Jim may not see the wiggle rod behind the third hand that I made as well.

What I have in the picture is a T handle wiggle rod and a homemade thirdhand. So, feel free to put a wood handle on a 18 inch wiggle rod. You may want to make the wiggle rod a little longer so you still have 18 inches plus what portion goes in the handle. Tim

I find the a home made wiggle rod to be extremely helpful.
Always thought it should come with every egg.
You hardly have to even sift the ash's through the bottom vent holes upon light up.
(I find the holes are already fairly open from the previous cook.)
I light-n-wiggle, and I'm off to the races!
Anyhow, "it works for me.."
