Semi OT - Ghost Peppers!!!

So... I was stocking up on some spices at Savory Spice shop in Boulder (If you are in CO and have not been to one of these, you are missing out!! Penzey's is also good.)
Then a jar titled "Bhut Jolokia – Ghost Pepper” caught my eye!!
The owner was nearby, so I asked if these were even a plausible ingredient. He said to just use one whole in chili, or such, and to take it out. You can then chop it up and mix with honey and vinegar to make a sauce.
I was of course intrigued, as I am a huge fine of spicy food, but I am not sure if I have gotten in over my head! I picked up a ¼ oz. for the thrill of it!
Anyone ever used these?

I had a Halloween party this year where we had a Ghost pepper eating contest. Each of us had a Ghost chili and a glass of milk. Last man standing without drinking milk got a gallon of Jack..It was just a matter of time before everyone even the tough guy was sippin milk..Lol The pepper has a smokey flavor and hot at first, then the next 10 minutes it gets hotter and hotter and our ears started to ring. That's a good sign of some hot Sh!t.. My burn lasted at least an 1/2 hour and my underwear was soaked from sweat..some guys went home...Look up ghost chili pepper on youtube and you will see some videos of people eating them...funny Never tried to add them to food. Every time I think about it, my colon goes into a spasm..Good time for a bunch of drunks, tho...lol

Bhut Jolokia has just recently replace the Red Savina habanero pepper to become the hottest pepper. It has a scoville rating of around 1,000,000. The jalepeno pepper's scoville rating is between 2500 and 8000. I would like to try some. Let us know how they are.

They have replaced the Scotch Bonnett as the hottest pepper on the planet, and that is not to be dismissed!
Have had my hands burn for 5 days working on far less volatile peppers.... Please be careful. -

Now that is funny. -
Check out Man V Food when he had one hot wing with ghost peppers on it. That's all he could put down...one. And he ended up in the walk in cooler with a gallon of milk looking like he ran a marathon.

I saw that episode. It looked EXTREMELY painful. Here's the Scoville scale in case you want to see what you're getting yourself into first.

I had one chopped up in a pot of chilli last weekend for the Vikings game :( (still crying over that), but it was not as hot as I was thinking. I added some hot sauce to make it more toward my liking. I tried to grow some last year, but when I transplanted them they died.

We tried a new twist on the Ghost Pepper...GP vodka. We put 7 ghost peppers in a bottle of grey goose...a month later it burned all the way to the stomach. My feet went numb and my buddy was gaging...pretty funny adventure we will not try again. I am sure we can sucker a few friends to try it!Bone Daddy's Competition BBQ & Catering

Yes, I've had them.
I got ahold of some at a hot sauce show last fall. I ate all the dip and ranch I could find.
I like hot food.
It was too hot to enjoy.
 Whew!!!
