  • WOW!!

Sure hope mine doesn't do the same. Smitty at Eggs by the Bay here in California is my dealer but I bought my Mini new at the Mothership in Tucker at the 2008 Octoberfest. I wonder what that will do to my "life-time" guarantee.

My Mini is sitting on a wooden table I guess I will be keeping much closer watch on it from now on.

    I agree with you..

My mini will be sitting on it's feet and not the stand.
  • Yes, indeed, thanks for posting. I currently have my Mini on feet atop a metal table--I was actually considering the purchase of the stand. No more! I'll stick with the feet.
  • Good suggestion, Pete.
This is specially appropriate as I was just getting ready to fire the Mini up.
  • my pleasure ... will be back shortly with more pix
  • That is just a shame and I am very glad you didn't get hurt or burn your house down. I never liked that stand and didn't buy one when I got my mini. I hope they redesign it now.

Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Looks like I'll be taking my mini stand to work and do some fab work. Not sure what I'll do yet but it will be setting on something and not hanging. Mine is now on our wood deck in the stand and setting on a paver.

Thanks for the heads up and pictures!!! Mike
  • let me know if you want any different views etc

    bill,

That is awful! If that happened to mine I would have had another fire. That setup will change promptly.

That discoloration from the outer edge seeping inward looks like this issue was actually festering for a while before it finally gave. I may be wrong, but it just seems strange to me.

seriously .. you are on to something. interestingly the majority of the grease is on the upper half very little on the lower. the mini has only left home once and it was packed in a styrafoam shipping cooler.. so oi do not expect it was from trauma.
i think i will put the whole thing in the house so the rain and weather do not effect the evidence ,, the post mortem continues....

  • i think that is wise at least until we know more. i have been doing pizza's and indirects for a while but it has been in the stand less than a month... and you surely do not need more trouble..
do you want me to try to sneak some fresh habeneros thru customs via priority mail?

That is a real shame! I would take the base to the dealer too, so that they can verify that the dimensions are correct.

It was cracked before it broke. You can see that by the stain that is present in pictures 3 and 4. A thermal crack would yield one that is clean with no discoloring of the ceramics. It looks like this may have been cracked for a while and judging by the drippings down the glaze, those are what got into the crack....

  • i agree but since the crack parallels the stand ,, do you think that was the start of it ??? and todays cook was just the last straw? the truama fractures , like the one Ripnem posted, are not in a staight line. let me know if you want to see more pix

I doubt it, the crack was started by some sort of trauma...dropping the mini into the stand too hard, jostling around, many things. The crack would not have been made by the heat alone, that helped finish what was started. Somewhere, something happened that was hidden by the stand and this was the last straw unfortunately.
