cast iron grids

I have CI grids for both the large and small. I love the way they cook, but very seldom use them because they are so hard to get off and on. Is there something similar to the grid gripper for the normal grates that anyone uses with their CI grids?

There is everything you'll need. Wayne sent me my third hand grate lifter a couple of years ago and I swear I'll never be without it ever again.

I just got a CI grate at the BGE home office in Tucker last Sat, and could not believer they didn't sell a lifter to handle it.

I just ordered a 3rd hand from 3rd eye and have high hopes.

I use a pair of welders gloves (insulated in the fingers) that work great for me for lifting hot grids, platesetter, etc.

I use one of these. Picked it up at a hardware store for $5-6. I don't have mates or any other shelf where I could hang the grid if I had a third hand anyway. This thing is awesome.

I have an XL BGE with the two half circle CI grids. I use the standard gripper moving them one at a time, seems to work ok.

The best grid lifter is the ash tool. A Medium stock grid can be lifted with the ash end. A Medium cast iron is a little heaver, so I use the hook end. Works great!

I just hook on to it with my ash tool.

I used to use the ash tool but it started to bend and the weld was showing stress.

The ThirdHand is a great solution. It is also nice as the grid can hang under the mates or table while making changes in the egg.

While you are at thirdeye's site also order a wiggle rod if you don't have one.
