Tim,
Not to be bossy or disrespectful, but when those things die, try another method. I bet you like others better. I gave those things up back in the webber days. -
The grill I had before the Egg was a Weber charcoal that had small propane tank that was used just to get the coals started. Now that I have the Egg, I've taken that tank off the old grill and use it to light a chimney that I fill about 1/3 of the way with some small/medium size pieces of lump. I put the propane flame under the chimney for just a few mintues and it gets that started. Another few minutes and I dump it in the Egg. I've never had a 'bad start' with this method.
I like this because it works every time and I was able to do it without buying anything. Since I'm only running the propane tank for a few minutes, it lasts forever. -
Adam, I hear what you are saying and I may do just that. I may go to a torch or something else. I think the electric starters will last about a year. If I go with WG lump I may go to a torch. I have a weed burner but it is a long one and I priced a mapp torch and I keep thinking they are to expensive. I have used the starter cubes and ran out of them so I found the kind that you have to use a hatchet to break up...i guess I will wear out what I have and go from there. Tim
I take no disrespect Adam.

Mike:
WOW!!! That’s sort of like the sacrifice of a virgin to the flames!
Never could and never will be able to wrap my brain around that one! I mean…I like virgins (I know a number of them…Well…I think I do anyway) and it seems like such a waste.
Of course on the other hand, I would expect that all of your cooks are really outstanding! As the Gods must be VERY happy with you. YES?
Just some 2010 silliness :silly: !!! -
Weed Torch here also
-
Here's a shot of a weedburner in action :woohoo:

I just got a mapp torch for Christmas, but haven't tried it yet :pinch: It should work well for the mini egg

I really like this method. It works well and is inexpensive and it recycles used frying oil. Remember, you do not need to use much oil on each piece of towel

Love love love my weed burner!
