Hello eggheads. My name is Patrick Dunn. I live in KC Missouri. My wife just got me my first Big Green Egg. I have it on my Patio but have not used it yet. Any pointers on things that I should purchase for the Egg. Any pointers on who I can purchase a table from? Any help would sure be appriciated. I have no clue about this thing. Thank you, Patrick.

Lump and Meat..
Most folks build there own tables, but BGE does sell them..
Platesetter is a good option, as is the adjustable rig. Pizza stone and a thermopen..
However, they are are all options, except the meat and lump. -
Hey KC Egger! Welcome to the forum. Things to by hmmmm...platesetter, thermopen, cast iron grate, Big Green Egg pizza stone. Those will get you started.
Pointers? Decide what you want to cook, then come here to search or ask for some help. The folks here are a fantastic resource. Yesterday someone asked where they could find an owners manual online. One of the responses was, "Manual? We are the manual?" It made me laugh, but in all truth there are hundreds of thousands of hours of eggsperience here and they are all willing to help.
Most importantly, have fun, and use your imagination. Welcome and your wife rocks, you'll be thanking her everyday for this Christmas gift. -
Thank you for the info. Im not really a do it yourselfer so I will need to buy a table. I just got the Egg. I plan on going this weekend to get a table so I can start using it.

Patrick,
Welcome to the cooking on the best grill/smoker you will ever own! Also, you made a great decision to come here for help. This 'family' will guide you from simple to elaborate meals on your egg.
You didn't say which size egg you have and the accessories vary by egg size, with the large having the most after market accessories available.
Here is a link to a post that "Grandpas Grub" puts out every so often for newbies. He has done a great job of assimilating information.

Come back for more help, as needed.
Welcome to the cult!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: -
Thank you. My wife does rock! She told me that I can buy whatever i want for this thing. Thats what I plan on doing this weekend. I will keep you posted when I get this thing going.
-
Welcome. You will be surprised at how much you will find at this site,

Anything else you need, just ask here. -
She purchased the Large. I guess this is the most popular size. At least that is what the guy said that sold it to her.
-
Sounds good. I will put that on my list. Has everyone here built a table or purchased a table? I think that is were I need to start.

Welcome to the cult. As Rusty Rooster advised, you'll learn a ton from the Naked Whiz's site about how to operate your egg. Also, being a member here, and regularly browsing the posts will help you learn quickly. Please don't be afraid to ask about anything. There is a learning curve to cooking with the egg, so NO question is too simple to ask.
The dealer that sold your wife (bless her heart) the egg should be able to sell you a table from BGE. But you don't NEED a table to get started. As long as you use the little ceramic feet that came with the egg, any flat, level surface should do, though I wouldn't do it on a wooden deck (the bottom DOES get hot). A concrete patio or driveway should do. Also, once you do get a table, make sure you read the Naked Whiz's advice about table safety. -
Look at the homemade table gallery at TNW's site.
-
I should also add that if you don't have the budget or the space for a table, BGE sells a "nest" for the egg. That's what I use. Raises it up to working height, and allows me to roll it around the deck (I like to roll it right up to the sliding door in the winter, so I don't have to slog through the foot-deep snow to get to the egg.)

-
i will chack it out, thank you.
-
HAHAHAHA! 12.
Mike -
I have 10 eggs and one table. The rest are happy in their nests.. :woohoo:
-
I just might do that. Thank you for the offer.
-
10 eggs? WOW! Really? How many kids do you have. That is alot of food on 10 eggs.
-
Welcome Patrick,
I have not read the other replies yet but I can guess you got some great info. Feel free to come here with your questions, hop on in, the water is warm and there is lots of help here.
Regards,
Bordello -
Welcome aboard. The CD that came with the Egg is a good way to start. The bottom line, just do it. There really is no wrong way.
Im a nest guy too. It puts the egg at a perfect height.
Good Luck! -
Celtic Wolf is a wonderful soul who cooks for our troops on a pretty regular basis. He has 10 Eggs, and can function without sleep, the man is an enigma!
-
Yep 10 - 1XL, 6 Larges, 2 smalls and a mini
Hmmm the most kids I have had was roughly 3,000.. All members of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.. Though I had lots of help feeding them..
I cater with my eggs. -
I sleep... I also have 3 DigiQ IIs and 3 NanoQs and a son to make sure I do
-
A platesetter from your dealer, as well as a Big Green Egg pizza stone are things you will use frequently.
One of the members here sells high quality accessories. I have found the spider/adjustable rig combo to be something I use on almost every cook.
www.ceramicgrillstore.com
Amazon (and some local retailers) sell the remote wireless thermometer (Maverick E-73) which many of us use - again on almost every cook. -
Best way to learn is is to watch a seasoned egghead. Mike is well pickled errrr... seasoned
-
That is really nice. I have alot of respect for you to go and do that. Maybe someday I could join you.
-
I see that you live in Madison, MS. I have been to Madison a few times. Great town.
-
Living in KC, where do you get most of your stuff for the egg?
-
Thank you for the info. I want some storage for all of the stuff that im about to buy. Everyone here has a ton of info on things to buy. Sounds like i might need to build another wing on the house.
