Only 3 of us here to share Thanksgiving this year so only a little 10#er. Mostly a Mad Max cook. Finishing up all the sides while the little gal rests. Smoked with a little persimmon wood. Mike

I hear ya there!! Just cooked a 21 pounder for the neighbor...now cooking our 13 pounder. Our little bird looks like a cornish hen after the 21 pounder....
-
Looks great! I've got a 10 pounder that will go on pretty soon. How long did yours take to cook?
-
Basscat at 325* dome it took just at 2hrs to get the breast to 160* but the thighs weren't quite up to temp so I left it on about 15+ min longer. Breasts ended at about 168* and thighs at 179*. Much longer and the breasts would have been too dry. Mike

Cool, thanks. Hope mine looks as good as yours!

Looks terrific. Our digital therm. busted and I am at a loss. What temp did you cook your turkey and how long. I have a brined 13 pounder in the large BGE. Put it on at 1:45pm. Any advice? I have one of those instant meat probes that you use but I miss the digital.
Also did you use the plate setter inverted?
Thanks and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Aloha. -
Hi kaimuki girl, yes inverted plate setter with a pan with vee rack, with pan on BGE feet- anything type of spacer to keep the pan raised above the plate setter. For this small bird I kept the temp at no more than 325* dome. My DigiQ digtal meat probe died so like you I was going with my instant read thermo causing me to open the BGE more than I would have liked. Just keep eye on your dome temp, check the meat temp in a few places after an hour or so, and trust the BGE. I did rotate the bird a couple of times since it seemed to be cooking a little quicker on one side of the BGE.
Aloha, Mike -
Mike, did you use a v-rack?
