Burping does not work

I cooked steaks last night. Run the egg up to 600 and seared....shut the damper and the daisy wheel and let the steaks sit for 3 minutes. I burped the Egg three times then opened it up. It took about 2 seconds before flashback. I was waiting for it and was ready.....others might not be. I will open the daisy wheel and the bottom damper next time.

You can burp it all day and it won't help. LOL.
Seriously, when you have everything closed that fire is going to go towards the first oxygen it finds. I'm sure others may do it differently but I pull the daisy wheel or cap a few seconds before I open it.

Yep...Always the safest bet....open bottom vent all the way, and daisy all the way, give it a few generous seconds, then open the dome....carefully. ;) Burping does work, but not when a fire has been completely starved of oxygen. ;)
  • Burping is for when the fire is going, not for use after you've squelched a hot blaze.

What you were supposed to do was open the chimney completely and open the bottom vent completely, WAIT about 10 seconds and then maybe burp it before opening.

What you did was asking for flashback.

Maybe we should approach this from a different point of view. When I have dandylions in the front yard I learned to love them instead of curse them. Same thing here. Eyebrows serve no purpose in the evolution on man any more and are not needed. Open that dome and hollar OPA!!! and enjoy. :woohoo:

I always remove daisy and open bottom vent for a few seconds before opening lid when doing high temp cooks.Has worked so far. :)

with that said........it was a most impressive flashback. I was pretty impressed with the whole ordeal....especially since I was prepared.
