Here is one I took from a high school football game. Have a 300mm lens and took it without a tripod. No idea how I got it so good - lucky.
Here is one using a tripod in my driveway.

Hi Beli,
I have a Canon 40D. I used a Canon EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM.
The one at the football game (crescent moon) was taken with IS (Image Stabilization ON). 240mm, 1/160 sec, f/5.6 and ISO 1600. (yes 1600!) This one was handheld and have to think the IS had something to do with it - lucky.
The other was with a tripod and a remote switch. 300mm, 1/50sec, f/5.6 at ISO 100. Much more controlled environment.
Gotta love this stuff. -
